Description

• “Throughout the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s Ben Hogan irons were best known as a true golfer’s clubs. Blade muscleback at its finest.” – Ned Howard Ret PGA • Slazenger had to meet Hogan’s stringent requirements for the United Kingdom/ overseas market. It was the first company to license Hogan gear. • These irons are the Director model offered from around 1974 to 1979. The Director forged blade irons feature Hogan’s characteristic “blade within a blade” design – a little more stylized in this model. This made for mass behind the impact area. It can be seen that the Director model almost has perimeter weighting, so popular on game improvement clubs today. The prominent flange helped get the ball in the air. This model has a thin top line preferred by many low handicap golfers. Hogan was a clubmaking genius in my opinion. • The grips are cords which, back in the 70’s, was preferred by better golfers. • They have Regular Apex 3 Steel Shafts and have some bag chatter. Their swingweight registers D2 on my scale. The 5-iron is on top of the ruler. • Note that this set is relatively rare in the States. At this time most irons were sold as 2 (or 3) to 9 iron with a golfer purchasing wedges separately if wanted.
