This is a Wilson A2400 Roy Campanella signature model catchers mitt from the early to late 1950s. It can’t be any later than 1958 as Campanella’s career was ended in 1958 following a car crash that left him paralyzed. This glove is 34.5 inches and for right handed thrower. A fantastic piece of history, as Campanella was the first MLB African-American catcher and a teammate of Jackie Robinson with the Brooklyn Dodgers making his MLB debut in 1948, one year after Robinson broke the color barrier. Not only was he the first black catcher, but he is widely regarded as one of the best catchers of all-time. When he won the MVP in 1953, he hit .313 with 41 homers and 142 RBI while catching 144 games behind the dish. Arguably the best season ever put together by a catcher. I wanted to preserve this glove for history, but also make it playable again. There are some superficial tears, and I made some minor repairs, but this glove is now whole again and can be used to play with or for display. I took it all the way apart, cleaned the leather with shoe soap, and conditioned with oil. Then I put it back together with high quality 3/16 REAL LEATHER dark brown lace to keep the original feel of the the glove. So if you’re looking for a great piece of history for your man-cave, or just for a unique gamer with a story, feel free to shoot me an offer. Thanks for looking!
