Vintage 1990s SSK DPG-780 13" Dimple Pattern Softball Glove - RHT - Massive pocket + double post web

The Build & Condition This is a pure 1990s SSK DPG-780 model for Right-Hand throwers (RHT). This model features SSK’s classic "Dimple Pattern" leather processing on the palm, which was engineered to increase ball friction and secure the ball on impact. SSK's with a Made in China stamp can be a little uneven, we can be honest about that, but this one comes from the era when SSK was maintaining strict quality standards outside of their main factories in Japan. It's a solid build. All leather, none of the cheap deteriorating synthetics that started popping up in the late 90s and 00s. That big red & white embroidered wrist patch is a sign of the era, before they switched to the thinner vinyl design. The steerhide leather responded really, really well to a cleaning and conditioning. Original factory laces were all tested and in good shape. Ready for game play as soon as you take it out of the box. Repair note: the rivet holding the D-rings in place on the wrist strap has been replaced. It had become bent and I didn't want it cutting a player's hand. I substituted a piece of leather lace instead-- perfectly blunt, no rust, matches the glove, easily replaceable. Check the photos for the close-up. I also shined up those D-rings with some steel wool and a tiny bit of metal polish while they were liberated (in case you were scared about that harsh stuff being near the leather). Cleaning note: ever tried to clean a Dimple model? It's a PITA but you have to do it right. I clean these by hand with a toothbrush and a microfiber, going into each individual dimple to clean out that 30 year old dirt. Yeah, somebody owned it before you, but you should still be the one getting it dirty. Who This Is For & How It Plays The Adult Slowpitch Softball Player: I like this the most for rec softball players, mostly because of the size and old school feel. It's a 13" design, the pocket is astronomical but the double post web still lets it close easily. It comfortably holds 2 softballs (not exactly a game situation but outfielders and 3B's like a deep pocket). Fastpitch OF players can use this as a trusty backup too. I find most of those players prefer a newer glove as their primary, but for this price you're not going to find a better backup on a retail shelf. Plus it's a RHT so it always works as your teammates backup too!
