Description

This is a worn #70 red practice jersey of Arizona Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka from the 2021-22 NHL season, his rookie year. It is an Adidas size 60 G goalie-cut jersey with some puck marks on the front and both sleeves. Everything is sewn on the jersey except the Kachina patch logo on the front. The Coyotes only wear numbered jerseys with nameplates in rookie camp and preseason training camps. This is now a defunct style as the team switched from red to maroon practice jerseys at the start of the 2022-23 training camp. The 26-year-old Vejmelka was a 5th-round draft pick of the Nashville Predators in 2015, but kept playing for three different teams in his native Czech Republic as he had done since 2014. The Coyotes invited him to a development camp in September 2021 and he won a roster spot and soon became the team's #1 goalie, finishing his rookie year with a 13-32-3 record in 52 games. "Veggie" was one of the lone bright spots for the Coyotes and had some spectacular games with several 40-plus saves performances and played well beyond his lack of pro experience. This jersey was obtained directly from the team in a bulk buy on nearly 500 Adidas practice jerseys used over the last three seasons.
