At the finals of the 2008 Australian Open, Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga squared off to start off the new year. Coincidently, both of the finalists played with Wilson’s newest series of rackets: the KBlade. Tsonga’s amazing performance in the Australian Open caught the world’s attention, but it also publicized the KBlade 98. The KBlade 98 features Wilson’s latest technology in the tennis industry known as the KFactor, an improvement from the well-known nCode nano technology. Overall, the KFactor technology improves both the control and stability of a racket. The KBlade 98 blends power and control into a 98 sq. in. frame, weighing 10.7 oz. unstrung, and offers players a solid performance racket. Even though the [K] Blade weighs just over 11 ounces, it’s not as head light as a typical player’s frame. With more weight toward the head, it feels heftier and sturdier than the scale would indicate. It also gives the racquet plenty of pop on ground strokes and volleys, but you still have to bring your own power supply. Luckily, it’s easy to swing, and the flexibility gives the [K] Blade a soft feel at impact. Even with its dense string pattern, generating spin is not a problem. Many reviewers found the [K] Blade great for hitting a wide array of shots. Stability is not an issue at the baseline, but some testers wished it were more secure on volleys. The [K] Blade is offered in a Tour version with a smaller head, more weight and stiffness, and a more head-light balance, which could be a better option for players who frequent the net. The (K) Blade 98 is used by Philipp Kohlschreiber, Sabine Lisicki and Flavia Pennetta.
