The Kastle FX106 Ti, a newly redesigned ski for 2021-2022, has some big shoes to fill. A few years ago, core skiers who like wider all-mountain skis gravitated to the BMX105 HP. Then Kastle merged BMX into the FX family with the FX106 HP. The new 106 Ti more or less blends those two skis together. It packs the titanal punch like the BMX and delivers a smooth and intuitive ride like the 106 HP. The resulting ski immediately rises to the top as probably Kastle’s best big-mountain ski (102mm-109mm) to date. Per usual, you can rail these skis down groomers fast enough to give Ski Patrol conniptions. You can also edge reliably into crusty snow wherever you find it and stay locked on your line through bump runs. And where the FX106 Ti shines over its narrower brethren (the 86 Ti and 96 Ti) is in the endless hunt for fresh turns. Back bowls, chutes, steep trees — they want all of it. Keep in mind, though, that they do want to be driven. These skis won’t pair well with tentative, cautious skiers. They want to attack the fall line, get to the bottom, and do it again.
