They don't effect function and didn't grow any bigger while I used them so I didn't sow them up but you can. Quickslide material is pretty amazing stuff if you have never tried it! These are Vaughn's soft pad so rebounds are good but not booming like the SLR's would be and being the softer pad they hug the leg vs. sit on it. Strapping is pretty simple - Down the calf (wings not included but you can add), professor strap and behind the calf. No boot strap but toe straps included and pictured.
