PROTOTYPE Cleveland Sand Wedges CCIV These letters translate to "Cleveland Classics 4", which represents the 4th wedge designed by Roger Cleveland for his company Cleveland Classics (before it was renamed to Cleveland Golf). This wedge design ultimately became the legendary Tour Action 485, which proved extremely popular on Tour and revolutionized the wedge industry. Its age is evidenced by the original block text logo on the sole and shaft label, before the familiar white script was introduced. You will not find another one like this. Finish: Chrome Loft: 56 Bounce: 12 Shaft: Cleveland Classics Stiff Flex Length: 35.25" Grip: Standard Pro Only Cord 485 This number translates to "4th wedge design, released in 1985". This wedge is a slightly later prototype of the legendary Tour Action 485 wedge mentioned above. The 485 name had been introduced, but was not yet a registered trademark, hence the lack of "REG." before "485" that is found on later releases. Though the familiar white script logo had been introduced, it was not yet included on the sole, and the company was still known as Cleveland Classics. The Tour Action line did not yet exist. Finish: Chrome Loft: 56 Bounce: 12 Shaft: Cleveland Classics True Temper Dynamic Gold Stiff Flex Length: 35.25" Grip: Standard Cleveland Classics Tour Action 88 This is an early prototype of the legendary Tour Action 588 Wedge, which was designed to offer more forgiveness than the 485. It ultimately became the most widely used wedge at all levels of golf, and can still be found in many Tour players' bags today. 588 translates to "5th wedge design, released in 1988". As you can see, this wedge is missing the "5", which means it was produced before Roger Cleveland decided on the final specs of his 5th design, let alone before it was a registered trademark of his company. Finish: Chrome Loft: 56 Bounce: 14 Shaft: Cleveland H.E.T. Stiff Flex Length: 35.25" Grip: Standard Cleveland Golf Pride Tour Velvet Please see detailed photos
