Bob Toski Target 1 iron Many PGA Tour Pros are playing driving irons, which is another name for a 1 iron. Here is your chance to own one. Bob Toski was a golf pro who played the Tour from the ‘50’s; he was the leading money winner in 1954. He become a premier teaching pro in the following decades, being a sought-after TV commentator and author. Toski had a line of golf clubs. I cannot find the exact age but they are maybe ‘90’s vintage. Maybe ‘80’s. The head is a forged mild carbon steel. It has a bit of a dished back – mild perimeter weighting. That also resulted in a bit of a flange at the sole. This would make for a good design to blend the noted ability of a blade iron to shape shots and a touch of forgiveness of a cavity back. The hosel is topped by a traditional plastic ferrule which in turn is topped by a metallic one. I rather liked it. The steel shaft is True Temper Dynamic. This flex is labeled “T” – the first step is long and would seem to be regular or whippier. But it doesn’t play that way. In fact for me, the performance was definitely stiff. I am labelling it regular. The grip is the infamous Golf Pride Velvet cord Victory. This was preferred by the scratch players of my vintage. If it got dirty, we just took a hot wet towel and rubbed it down then dried it. Good as new.
