Why I Spent $2,250 on Adidas Hockey Jerseys To Resell on SidelineSwap

Over the past 5 years of selling on SidelineSwap, one of my favorite items to resell are Adidas Hockey Practice jerseys that are Made in Canada.

Made in Canada jerseys are made specifically for NHL players to wear, often known as pro stock jerseys. These jerseys offer higher quality stitching and polyester compared to traditional ‘Made in Indonesia’ jerseys sold to the public.

‘Made in Indonesia’ jerseys are the traditional jerseys sold online by Adidas and in stadiums. These jerseys will retail around $180 for a blank jersey and go up to $240 for a player jersey. These jerseys have a couple shared characteristics to the Made in Canada jerseys, including a tie-down fight strap and embroidered logos.

Adidas Made in Canada jerseys are not sold to the public. The only opportunity to buy them is either through a NHL equipment-sale or a 3rd party marketplace like SidelineSwap.

NHL Equipment Sales:

NHL teams will often host team sales during the summer to offload inventory. This also gives its fanbase the opportunity to buy team-issued gear at a low-price.

For instance, the Anaheim Ducks had an equipment sale on June 8th, 2024. Soon after, many Anaheim Ducks MiC Practice Jerseys appeared on SidelineSwap from sellers who attended the sale. The St. Louis Blues had an equipment sale June 15th where they sold Adidas MiC Practice Jerseys for $75 each.

So why did I end up spending $2250 on Adidas Made in Canada Practice Jerseys?

Made in Canada Practice Jerseys are quick to sell on SidelineSwap due to its limited supply and high demand. Many buyers on SidelineSwap are hockey players, who want to represent their favorite team and wear a high quality jersey when playing hockey.

In the past, I have sold 7 MiC jerseys which sold within a week of posting. Brand new MiC jerseys tend to sell for around $200-$300. Used MiC jerseys sell anywhere from $100-$200.

From the St. Louis Blues equipment sale, I was able to negotiate and buy 45 MiC jerseys for $50 each, totaling to $2,250. I like to follow a rule which is 100% Return on Investment (ROI). In this case, it means that for every $50 I spent on a jersey, I should be making a minimum of $50 profit on the jerseys. In this exact scenario, I'm aiming for around a 200% ROI, which makes me confident in my decision to spend more upfront.

The 45 jerseys included

  • 18 Blank White
  • 17 Blank Red
  • 10 St. Louis Blues Yellow

You can buy them from my locker here.

This purchase was my biggest bulk deal I have ever done. My experience selling 7 MiC jerseys in the past helped me be confident in the decision I made for a bulk purchase.

Future with Fanatics:

With a new upcoming hockey season, the NHL is switching to Fanatics from Adidas to manufacture and sell official hockey jerseys. Fanatics will be producing MiC jerseys out of the same factory Adidas used based in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.

Fanatics has decided to sell Made in Canada jerseys to the public, which will officially release online and physical retail starting in September according to the Fanatics website. These jerseys will retail for $500 and are available to pre-order for some teams, with the Anaheim Ducks Team Store shown below:

The market for Made in Canada jerseys will undergo significant change with the Fanatics decision to sell these jerseys to the public.

However, Fanatics has not mentioned if they will sell MiC practice jerseys to the public, which is a large part of the demand for MiC jerseys overall.
