This is a pair of BAUER SUPREME S170 GOALIE SKATES - Size 1 (shoe size 2.5) . The S170 Goalie Skates are cowling-free and have a Vertexx Edge Holder. These innovations gives the goalie a performance advantage over traditional goalie skates by raising the overall skate height. This allows the goalie to establish a push edge from a sharper angle. Per Bauer, this affords the goalie an incredible 10% increase in attack angle, meaning this type of goalie skate reduces how high the young goalie has to raise his or her knee to push laterally, making it easier to close the gap under the pads. The Goalie Specific Toe Cap provides improved protection through added stiffness and thickness. By eliminating the cowling, these goalie skates drop considerably in weight, and these skates come with the "Lundqvist loop", which refers to a loop on the back of the skate that Henrik Lundqvist created for his own use. The loop is for goalies who wish to try a different strapping set up around their ankle can feed their pad's the boot strap through the ankle (instead of under it), which also mimics the feel used by Carey Price, given his tendency to remove the boot strap of his pad. This strapping technique allows the foot to more freely move in the pad and push off the ice, and reducing blowouts while still allowing the pad to follow your foot (eliminating a drawback of completely removing the bootstrap).
