The Smash Bag by 5 Hole was from the early 2000's and designed to break in traditional leg pads. As you can see from the photos, the pads are first strapped in. Then, the strap is tightened, thereby "smashing" the leg pads down. The bag can then be zipped and used to carry the leg pads.
Yes, I know those are inline pads. I no longer have vintage leg pads and did not want to smash my current ice pads for the purpose of this demonstration. Traditional vintage pads could be smashed much greater than shown in the picture.
