### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

* This helmet is perfect and super comfortable. It feels really snug on my head and neck. I also really like the quick clip, unlike the other xrs. The magnet only releases when pulled down. Easy to put on with gloves.
* I have had most Cascade helmets and this is by far the best yet. Not since the Pro 7 have I had a helmet that protected the back of my head.
* I am using it as a goalie and I have no complaints. Fits true to size, feels amazing, and looks great.

CONS:

* Love the Cascade helmets, but wish they had a size in between Youth and Adult. My son has just about outgrown his youth helmet, and this adult helmet says he should fit, but the adult is still too large.
* Considering the price it is better if you are pursuing higher levels and not necessarily for those who are just starting. It is a little difficult to adjust the straps yourself so I would recommend having someone like a coach, teammate, friend, etc help
* Pricey, especially if you customize it.

If you're a serious player demanding top-of-the-line protection without feeling weighed down, the XRS Pro is a great helmet. It has the multi-layered Tri-Liner Plus system to absorb every check and shot, but it also feels ridiculously light. The SuperMono shell distributes weight evenly, so it practically disappears on your head. No more feeling like you're lugging around a brick during practice! The pro model features the BalancePoint Technology, which shifts the center of gravity for a balanced, secure fit that won't wobble around. Its an overall great helmet.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Cascade S](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/s-61/l855) and the [STX Rival](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/stx/rival-5/l7661)

The Cascade XRS Lacrosse Helmet features a second angled VisionBar for exceptional downward visibility, ideal for ground ball specialists. The Cascade XRS and Cascade S Lacrosse Helmets both feature the most advanced impact absorption technology. The STX Rival offers a good fit and improved ventilation, while also being affordable. The Cascade XRS caters to players who prioritize top-tier protection and better vision.

### Progression:

The XRS is an upgraded version of the popular Cascade S helmet. The S helmet features increased vision that sits slightly higher and allows a better up and down field of vision. The Cascade S, introduced the Jawbone, which is a single piece of plastic that extends from the chin back towards the ear and is designed to mitigate impact on the side of the head. ### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

* This helmet is a tank. I feel completely confident and protected on the field with the XRS on. The multi-liner system and high-density foam absorb impacts like crazy. Haven't had any stingers or headaches since switching to this helmet.
* For a high-protection helmet, the XRS is surprisingly lightweight and comfortable. It doesn't weigh me down at all, and the 360 fit system ensures a snug but pressure-free feel.
* Being able to personalize your helmet with different shells, visors, and chin straps is a big deal for me. The XRS lets you do just that and create a helmet that reflects your style.

CONS:

* The XRS is definitely on the expensive side compared to some other helmets on the market.
* Finding the perfect fit can be a challenge with the XRS. The sizing system was weird.
* The base model visor might not be ideal for outdoor games on bright days. Consider the extra cost if you need a visor with more sun protection.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

The XRS helmet features the Tri-Liner system that combines multiple foam densities for impact absorption. This might sound heavy, but the XRS is surprisingly lightweight, thanks to the shell design. It distributes weight evenly, so you'll barely notice you have it on, which is a major plus for those long games. Overall, the XRS is a top performer that feels light and secure, letting you focus on your game without worrying about your helmet.

The biggest upgrade is the wide-open visibility. The S sits slightly higher and allows a much better up-and-down field of vision. The Tri-Liner system combined with the Supermono™ S shell creates the ideal protection package. The S is also super lightweight and breathable, thanks to ventilation ports where cool air flows in and out the rear XFLO exhaust. Building on Cascade's legacy of customization, the S allows for a 360° contoured fit that can be micro-adjusted on the fly.

* GEN4 EPP manages variable force impacts specific to the front of the helmet and face mask.

* A one-piece shell and visor design that creates a rigid system to manage frontal impacts.
* A reinforced S-Series jaw that has a dual-material chin piece.
* VisionBar's PowerPress technology enhances sight lines and face mask rigidity.

* Three customizable jaw pads provide a 360-degree contoured fit that can be micro-adjusted on the fly for ultimate comfort.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Warrior Burn](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/warrior/burn-14/l12316) and the [STX Rival](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/stx/rival-5/l7661)

While the Cascade S is a top contender, both the Warrior Burn and STX Rival offer strong competition. The Warrior Burn prioritizes traditional impact absorption with a focus on key zones, while the STX Rival boasts a budget-friendly price tag and a comfortable, adjustable fit achieved through its Sure-Fit Air System. On the field, all three helmets prioritize safety with certifications from NOCSAE and SEI. Ultimately, choosing between them depends on your budget and whether you prioritize a customizable fit or superior ventilation, a strength of the Cascade S.

### Progression:

The Cascade S helmet wasn't the first chapter in Cascade's line. It succeeded the Cascade R, marking a significant leap in design and functionality. Here's a breakdown of the progression:

**Pre-R Era:** Cascade's journey began with the original Cascade helmet, a major upgrade from traditional leather buckets. It offered a sleek design and more protection for the face. Models like C2 and CLH2 followed, refining the shape and introducing the now-familiar visor design.

**[CPX-R](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/cpx-r/l857):** This helmet introduced the "tail fin" design element still seen in Cascade helmets today. It also boasted a new liner system and a downward-sloping face mask for better visibility and aesthetics.

**[Cascade R](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/r/l856):** This helmet was built upon the CPX-R's foundation with several key upgrades, including a seven-technology liner system that effectively disperses impact energy throughout the helmet, a more customizable fit system, and a sleek and streamlined look that became a signature of Cascade helmets.

**[Cascade S](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/s-61/l855):** Surpassing the R, the Cascade S reigns supreme as one of Cascade's top-of-the-line offerings. It builds upon the R's success with further advancements including:

* An even more refined version of the Seven Technology liner system and introduces SmartShock technology, which strategically manages impact across different areas of the helmet.
* The S takes customization to a new level with an improved fit system that allows for personalized adjustments for optimal comfort and protection.
* A redesigned shell with enhanced ventilation channels for maximum breathability during intense play.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

* The Cascade S is the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. The Tri-Liner system really conforms to my head, and the sizing dial lets me get a nice, snug fit without any pressure points.
* My son plays attack and just switched to the Cascade S this season. It's a night and day difference from his old helmet. He says it feels much lighter, which helps him with dodging and moving around quickly. The padding feels really secure too.
* I've been using the Cascade S for two seasons now, and I can't say enough good things about it. The protection is top-notch. I've taken some pretty good shots to the head over the years, and I've never felt anything. The helmet does a great job of absorbing the impact.

CONS:

* The biggest downside to the Cascade S is the price. It's definitely one of the more expensive helmets on the market. However, I do believe you get what you pay for.
* Sizing can be a bit tricky with the Cascade S. I had to order two different sizes to find the right fit.

* It's a bit on the higher end in terms of price, and some younger players might not need all the bells and whistles that this helmet offers.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

The Cascade S is a good helmet for any level. My kid—he's eight—loves his S. One thing to note is that all youth Cascades helmets are slightly smaller than the adults. The one-piece shell and visor create a pretty rigid helmet to manage impacts. They also moved the center of gravity to the middle of the crown, keeping its weight balanced and aligned.

* Junior R Mask design has a 3 bar design which increases the field of view without sacrificing protection.
* FutureStart Mono R Shell is a one-piece shell and visor that rescues the overall weight.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Warrior Burn Jr](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/warrior/burn-14/l12316) and the [Cascade Youth S](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/s-61/age-youth/l179276)

Though all three cater to young players and prioritize safety with certifications, the Cascade CS-R, Warrior Burn Jr, and Cascade Youth S offer distinct advantages: The CS-R reigns supreme in popularity for its comfortable memory foam fit and increased visibility with a 3-bar design. The Warrior Burn Jr prioritizes impact absorption with a combination of foam liners, similar to the CPX-R for adults. Finally, the Cascade Youth S boasts a sleek design and a budget-friendly price point, making it a good choice for young players starting out.

### Progression:

The Cascade CS-R is the first helmet of its kind. Never before has a company aimed to provide an elite-level youth helmet for the U-12 age group. Using the feedback from its predecessors, the original CS and the Cascade R helmet, Cascade created the CS-R with innovative tech, including a Gen 3 EPP Liner, a full pivoting system, FutureStar Mono Shell, and unlimited customization features.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS

* This helmet is perfect for my growing lacrosse player. The adjustable straps and padding ensure a snug but comfortable fit.
* Being lightweight is a big deal for younger players. This helmet doesn't weigh them down, allowing kids to focus on the game.
* The padding seems thick enough to absorb any bumps or falls my son might encounter on the field.

CONS:

* While the straps are adjustable, I wish there were more options for fine-tuning the fit. My son has a narrower head, and it took some effort to get it feeling just right.
* For the price, I would have liked to see a better sizing system that caters to a wider range of head shapes.
* This helmet seems perfect for younger kids just starting out, but my 12-year-old son is going to need something more substantial as his skills increase.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

The CS-R is perfect for players under 12 years old. Its key features are quality foam for impact absorption and memory foam side fits for a snug feel. This differs from adult helmets with thicker padding, ensuring the CS-R stays lightweight. However, this lighter padding system might not be ideal for older or more aggressive players who need top-level protection.

* A multi-layered liner system incorporates various layers of materials to effectively absorb and disperse the force of impacts.
* A Chevron face mask design. The bars' placement offers an increased field of view without compromising protection.
* A single-piece shell and visor design contribute to a lighter overall helmet weight, reducing fatigue and improving mobility on the field.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Warrior Burn Jr](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/warrior/burn-14/l12316) and the [Cascade S Youth](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/s-61/age-youth/l179276)

Today's young players have strong options in the Warrior Burn Jr and Cascade S Youth. All three lacrosse helmets prioritize safety with certifications, but target different aspects of the game: the CPV-R, features a multi-layered liner system, offering a balanced approach to protection. Today's Warrior Burn Jr echoes this focus with a combination of foams, while the Cascade S Youth prioritizes a sleek design and comfort features like a memory foam fit system, making it a great choice for young players starting out.

### Progression:

Cascade took a big step forward with the release of the CPV-R helmet. In addition to making the helmet look better than its predecessor the CPV, it has new functional features, like a liner system and downward-sloping face mask for increased visibility and enhanced looks.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

* My son has a larger-than-average head. He is age 11, and we ordered the largest Youth size. It was snug, but not too tight. I like that it has an adjustment button on the back of the helmet.
* Despite his small head, my son finds this helmet sits perfectly, does not wobble, and does not obstruct his vision during play.
* I bought this helmet for my son to use for practicing in the off-season. It is solidly constructed, lightweight, and excellent quality.

CONS:

* I only wish there was an available size larger than M/L that wasn't a custom order. I have several kids on my team who require larger helmets.
* Only issue is that Cascade doesn' make a L/XL for kids with bigger heads.
* The only complaint my son has is of the chin strap. Although we've adjusted it, its too tight and leaves an indentation on his chin.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

Stepping up from the original CPV, the CPV-R is an excellent pick for advancing youth players. It's a perfect helmet for young attackers and midfielders on the rise. It has a dial-adjust system that lets you fine-tune the tightness. No more helmet bouncing around during ground ball scrambles! It's also well-ventilated, a significant plus for keeping cool under pressure.

# Cascade R Lacrosse Helmets

The Cascade R Lacrosse Helmet falls right in line with Cascade's commitment to constant improvement. Released before the top-of-the-line Cascade S, the R still offers a significant leap in protection and comfort compared to previous models. A key selling point is the adjustable "R" fit system, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for a wide range of head sizes. It also boasts the innovative "R" design, a sleeker and more aerodynamic evolution of the "tail fin" featured on prior Cascade helmets. The Cascade R represents a stepping stone between previous iterations and the cutting-edge technology of the Cascade S, making it a great choice for players seeking a balance between affordability, advanced features, and the Cascade legacy of excellence.

### Perfect helmet for:

advanced youth, high school and collegiate players

### Key features include:

* SevenTechnology liner and Poron XRD foam work together to absorb high and low-energy hits.
* HardTail SPRfit system and adjustable jaw pads offer a personalized fit.
* SuperMono R shell provides a lightweight structure for better impact management.
* R-Series chin and mask design expands peripheral vision while maintaining strong frontal protection.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Warrior Burn](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/warrior/burn-14/l12316) Lacrosse Helmet and the [STX Rival](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/stx/rival-5/l7661)

Stacked against competitors Warrior Burn and STX Rival, the Cascade R holds its own as a mid-range option. While the Warrior Burn boasts advanced padding focused on high-impact areas and the STX Rival offers great value with its adjustable fit system, the Cascade R strikes a balance between protection and affordability. All three helmets meet safety certifications and will perform well on the field. The deciding factor might come down to whether you prioritize a customized fit (STX Rival) or advanced padding technology (Warrior Burn).

### Progression:

The Cascade R helmet wasn't the first in Cascade's line. It succeeded the Cascade CPX-R, marking a significant leap in design and functionality.

**[Cascade R](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/r/l856):** Here's where the R takes center stage. It built upon the CPX-R's foundation with several key upgrades:

* **Enhanced Protection:** The R incorporated Cascade's Seven Technology liner system, which effectively disperses impact energy throughout the helmet. It also featured Poron XRD foam, a material known for absorbing high-energy hits.
* **Improved Fit:** The R offered a more customizable fit system compared to its predecessor.
* **Modern Design:** The R sported a sleek and streamlined look that became a signature of Cascade helmets.

While the Cascade S helmet has since surpassed the R as Cascade's top-of-the-line offering, the R remains a popular choice for players seeking a balance between protection, affordability, and a classic Cascade design.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS

* This Cascade R is a tank. I play attack and take a lot of hard hits, but I feel completely confident with this helmet on. The Poron foam is incredible - it absorbs impact like crazy.
* The sizing system is super easy to use, and the liner conforms to your head perfectly. No pressure points, and no sloppy movement…it feels like it was custom-made for me.
* The moisture-wicking liner does a great job of keeping my head cool and dry, even during the most intense games. Plus, the ear shells are comfortable and don't press down on my ears at all, which is a big deal for me.

CONS

* The Cascade R is definitely on the heavier side compared to some other helmets i’ve used. It's not a huge deal for me, but some players might find it a little bulky, especially attack or midfielders who need maximum mobility.
* This helmet is a top-of-the-line piece of equipment, and the price reflects that. It's definitely an investment. If you're a casual player or just starting out, there might be more affordable options available that offer a good balance of protection and price.
* The customization options seem a bit limited compared to some other high-end helmets on the market.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

Many kids upgrade to the top-of-the-line Cascade R helmet when they reach JV or Varsity levels. It's a good helmet for any player who wants top-of-the-line protection. The venting system is good and keeps the head cool during intense games. The mask design offers an excellent downward field of view, crucial for scooping up ground balls.

Youth S

# Cascade CPX-R Lacrosse Helmets

The Cascade CPX-R Lacrosse Helmet stands as a testament to Cascade's focus on innovation for the developing player. This best-selling helmet bridges the gap between youth and elite models. One of its key selling points is the adjustable SPRfit system, which allows for a perfect fit throughout a player's growth spurts. The CPX-R also incorporates the "tail fin" design, a signature Cascade innovation that enhances weight distribution and balance for young athletes. This helmet sits within the Cascade legacy as a major advancement from earlier models, offering significant protection and adjustability for the crucial youth and high school lacrosse stages.

### Perfect helmet for:

all active players between the ages of 11-14 and high school players as well

### Key features include:

* A high-performance liner for absorbing forceful impacts paired with a comfort liner for mitigating low-energy hits
* A personalized and secure fit through the CPX fit system, which integrates an adjustable head pad for optimal comfort and safety.
* A strategically positioned second vision bar that expands the player's field of view without compromising protection.
* Maintains airflow and comfort with vents that allow for heat and moisture to escape.

### Top competitors comparison: the [Warrior Burn Jr](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/warrior/burn-14/l12316) and the [STX Rival Jr](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/stx/rival-5/l7661)

Despite the Cascade CPX-R's enduring presence, the Warrior Burn Jr and STX Rival Jr offer strong options for young players today. All three meet safety standards, but the CPX-R takes a balanced approach with a traditional design, adjustable fit, and multi-layered impact absorption. The Warrior Burn Jr mirrors this focus on protection through its combination of foams, while the STX Rival Jr prioritizes affordability and adjustability, similar to the adult STX Stallion, making it a great choice for a comfortable, budget-friendly fit for growing athletes.

### Progression:

The Cascade CPX-R wasn't the first iteration in Cascade's lacrosse helmet legacy, but it was a significant step forward in design and functionality. Here's a look at the progression leading up to the CPX-R:

**Pre-CPX-R Era:** Cascade's journey began with its original helmet, a major leap from traditional leather head protection. This helmet offered a more streamlined design and increased facial protection. Subsequent models like the C2 and CLH2 continued to refine the shape and introduce the now-familiar visor design.

**[Cascade CPX-R](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/lacrosse-helmets/cascade/cpx-r/l857):** This helmet marked a turning point for Cascade, introducing several key upgrades:

* **Inspired Design:** The CPX-R drew inspiration from the automotive industry, evident in its sleek lines and distinctive "tail fin" design element, which is still used in the most current Cascade models.
* **Enhanced Protection:** The CPX-R boasts a revamped liner system for better impact absorption. Although not the original Seven Technology liner system seen in later models, it represented a step forward in safety.
* **Improved Visibility:** Compared to earlier models, the CPX-R features a downward-sloping face mask. This improves a player's field of view without sacrificing protection.

The CPX-R builds upon the foundation laid by Cascade's earlier helmets, focusing on improved aesthetics, better protection, and enhanced player experience. It paved the way for the introduction of the Cascade R, which further refined the design and incorporated Cascade's innovative Seven Technology liner system for superior impact management.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

* My son wore the CPX-R to a game last weekend and loves it. He says he can see better, and it fits better than the helmet we had on loan from our program. He also says he was less "sweaty" in this helmet. Awesome helmet at a great price.
* This helmet is excellent for my 10 year old. It’s comfortable, fits securely, and definitely protects her face and head. Definitely recommend.
* I have a small head. The CPV-R feels smaller than the CPV which I like. Overall, I like the CPV-R better, the fit is more snug, and the peripheral vision is great.

CONS:

* A bit expensive for a youth helmet, but all good lacrosse equipment seems to be pricey these days.
* ⁦The only issue is that Cascade doesn't make a L/XL for kids with bigger heads. They assume only the smaller kids play lacrosse so there is no need to make them?? Other then that the helmet is nice but a little pricey.
* After about a month of owning this helmet, the padding behind my head folded up and fell off.

### Expert notes ([by elite seller Benaround](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/benaround))

The CPX-R is a very light helmet. It has less protection than the higher-end models, especially in head-to-head collisions. An eight-year-old isn't going to get hit by a 200-pounder, so they don't need all the extra materials that adult helmets have. Also, there is no sizing with the CPX-R, as the helmet has a pinch-able adjustment feature at the base of the neck.
