Carving a space in the offensive arena, the ECD Ion Head takes on established contenders like the Maverik Optik 3.0 and STX Surgeon 900, each offering distinct advantages. The Maverik Optik 3.0 champions customization with its interchangeable faceplate technology, allowing players to tailor the pocket to their preferences. It boasts a mid-pocket design suitable for both powerful shots and controlled passing. The STX Surgeon 900, on the other hand, caters to players who value traditional pocket feel and precise passing. Its wider face shape and deeper pocket offer optimal hold and control over the ball, making it ideal for those who prioritize pinpoint accuracy. The ECD Ion stands out for its lightweight design and focus on speed, making it a great choice for fast-paced offensive players. Its tight face shape and mid-low pocket encourage quick releases and powerful throws on the run.

### Progression:

While the Ion doesn't have a directly traceable predecessor, it benefits from ECD's existing knowledge, player feedback, and understanding of the attack lacrosse head market.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

Pros:

* The Ion feels light and well-balanced. It allows for fast shots and accurate passing and catching. Cradling is comfortable.
* Surprisingly great. The clear plastic really looks awesome. Doesn’t feel brittle like the older clear plastic heads including the DNA diamond.
* This head has all the best qualities of the Maverik Optik 3.0 with an even tighter release.

Cons:

* I like this head - it's light and performs great. But, it's too fragile. I've had two breaks in 8 months at the throat. If it were more durable, it'd be the best ever.
* Used this new lacrosse head in college practice and after 7-8 months it cracked near the throat. Love the color and design but not perfect yet.
* It's been working okay for me. Was not easy at first to string the right pocket.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The ECD Lacrosse DNA 2.0 carves its niche in the offensive midfield realm, taking on established rivals like the STX Stallion 1K and the Nike L3, each offering distinct advantages on the field. The STX Stallion 1K reigns supreme in raw power generation thanks to its aggressive mid-high pocket and wider face shape. While this excels in forceful shots, it might compromise some control in finesse plays. The Nike L3 strikes a balanced approach with its mid-pocket suitable for both powerful shots and controlled passing. This versatility makes it adaptable to various offensive situations. Compared to these, the ECD DNA 2.0 prioritizes a blend of power and control through its mid-pocket design and focus on quick releases. * Updated material to reduce weight while maintaining stiffness.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* The DNA and DNA 2 are two of the most versatile heads ever produced. They are awesome for anyone but a face-off guy and a goalie
* If you are an all-around middie it will work really well. It’s by far the most versatile head on the market.
* The best head release of the year - precise shooting and consistent accuracy with a narrow face shape and mid pocket.

CONS

* I prioritize a super lightweight feel, and this head is slightly heavier than I expected
* It's still on the heavier side of elite heads... and a little stiff at first.
* I had to spend some time breaking this head in before I could use it on the field.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

Building off of the first generation DNA, ECD had designed this head to be for all positions from the offensive midfielder to the hard-hitting defenseman. The material of this head helps it hold its shape and improve its durability. It’s lighter compared to the first generation. The DNA 2.0 might not be the flashiest, but it feels like a reliable workhorse that you can count on to get the job done.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

This head comes in an offense and defense model. The offense is easy to use. ECD always produces a perfect head. It's made with light and durable material. You can get a lot of use out of the Rebel without really trashing it. And the defensive head is made to be stiff. It won't bend in any way, which defensemen like, especially when playing at the higher level. The more checks you throw, the more warped a head can get. The sidewalls are solid on the Rebel. A player can throw some pretty strong checks.

# ECD Weapon X Lacrosse Heads

The ECD Weapon X faceoff head was designed in collaboration with faceoff legend Greg "Beast" Gurenlian. The Weapon X aimed to reshape the faceoff landscape with its focus on its unique design: a proprietary blend of FlexForm material that offers strength and flexibility, strategically placed flex points throughout the head to enhance responsiveness and power transfer, and a short throat that brings your hands closer to the ball for increased leverage and control.

The Weapon X wasn't just another faceoff head for ECD; it marked their entry into the high-performance market. Prior to this, ECD was known for its value-oriented products. The Weapon X, however, embodied a shift towards premium offerings designed to meet the needs of elite players.

The Weapon X remains a top contender in the faceoff world, with multiple iterations like the Weapon X Pro and custom options catering to diverse player preferences.

**Perfect head for:** faceoffs

### Key Features Include

* FlexForm Materia offers flexibility and a head that keeps its shape.
* Precise Flex Points for wrapping the head around the ball with force and precision
* Shorter Throat for getting your hands closer to the ball for leverage
* Optimized Scoop so you never miss a ground ball.

### Top Competitor Comparisons: the [Nike CEO](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/nike/ceo/l721) and the [STX Duel 3](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/stx/duel-3-2/l172275)

In the face-off circle, the ECD Weapon X battles it out with the Nike CEO and STX Duel 3, each specializing in different aspects of the crucial first move. The Weapon X prioritizes power and leverage, featuring a stiff construction and an aggressive head design to clamp onto ground balls and overpower opponents. However, its aggressive design might come at the expense of some ground ball feel and control. The Nike CEO takes a more balanced approach, offering a blend of power and finesse with its mid-stiff pocket and wider face shape. This allows for strong clamps and a good feel for ground balls in contested situations. The STX Duel 3 leans towards a traditional design with a focus on control. Its wider face shape and softer pocket excel at scooping ground balls and facilitating clean transitions to offense.

### Progression:

The ECD Lacrosse Weapon X head hasn't seen any major iterations or changes since its initial release in August 2019. It remains the sole version of the Weapon X head.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* This lacrosse head is ideal for faceoffs as it bounces back and allows for controlled passes. The trade-off is that it is stiffer than traditional faceoff heads.
* The stiffness is good for bigger players as the extra weight and strength come in handy during faceoff techniques like plunges.
* This is a great stick to face off and stay in the game without having it warp.

CONS

* The biggest problem was finding a way to string the head that could match an offensive pocket as well as a face-off pocket. Took a couple of tries.
* The offset takes a while to get used to on faceoffs, and the head needs to be broken in before it’s usable for faceoffs.
* A little stiffer than expected.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick)](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports)

The Weapon X was made to compete with the Nike CEO line and is popular amongst faceoff guys throughout college. The idea is that it will flex the same every single time. So, it won't flex a little bit lower; it won't flex a little bit higher. It will flex in the same spot, holding the same shape with its warp resistance technology. The throat of the head was made to be as pinched as possible without becoming illegal, so right around that 3” requirement.
