Hockey Bag Sizing

Hockey bag sizes are generally broken up into five categories:

  • Senior (large)
  • Intermediate (medium)
  • Junior (small)
  • Youth
  • Goalie

Senior bags are 36 inches and up, intermediate bags fall somewhere between 32-36 inches, junior bags are 30-32 inches, and youth bags will be anything smaller than that. Of course, goalie bags will be the biggest at around 42 inches.

Hockey Bag Features

Along with sizing, you’ll also want to consider other features when shopping for a hockey bag. None of these features are mandatory, but some may enhance your experience depending on your wants and needs.

Wheels: Some hockey bags come with wheels on the bottom, allowing you to wheel the bag around instead of carrying it over the shoulder. This can be especially useful for younger, smaller players who may not yet have the strength to carry a bag independently.

Exterior Pockets: Some hockey bags feature an exterior pocket that can store small items like tape, wax, sharpening stones, pucks, or other necessities.

Interior Compartments: You can also find bags with large interior compartments, normally used to store skates or helmets.

Buying Used Checklist: Hockey Bags 🏒

Buying used gear is a sustainable way to score high-quality items at a fraction of the cost. Not only can you find great deals, but you might also stumble upon rare or discontinued gear that’s no longer available in stores. When buying a used hockey bag, here's what to look for:

✔️ Make sure the zippers, straps, and handles are working correctly.
✔️ Check for enough compartments to organize your pads, helmets, and skates.
✔️ Look for any build-up of grime or dirt that could be difficult to remove.
✔️ Ensure the wheels roll smoothly; look for any cracks or damage.
✔️ The handles should be sturdy enough to carry the weight of your gear.
