Golf Drivers

For the average golfer, a 13- or 14-degree driver is ideal for getting the most distance. These drivers have extra loft which means the ball will launch higher in the air resulting in farther distance.

Choosing a new driver is a process that involves many considerations.

• The skill level of the golfer
• The size and shape of the club head and clubface
• Shaft flexibility
• Shaft adjustability

The average recreational golfer with an average swing speed will likely get the most distance from a driver with a 10.5-degree loft. A 10.5-degree driver provides enough distance while also being more forgiving.

The loft a golf club determines how high a shot will go when the club head strikes the ball. Higher loft angles mean the ball will travel higher when hit whereas lower loft angles mean the ball will travel lower.

The flex of a shaft depends on the swing speed of the golfer. Stiff flex is recommended for golfers with fast driver swing speeds over 95 mph whereas regular flex is recommended for speeds under 95 mph. Senior flex shafts are also available and are generally targeted for speeds under 85 mph and ladies flex shafts are optimized for swing speeds around 70 mph.

A golf tool, also known as a torque wrench, is used to take apart the clubhead and shaft in order to adjust loft and lie, and weights on the sole of the club. Most torque wrenches are universal and will work for any driver or fairway wood.
