Wooden Baseball Bats

Pop is the exploding feeling you feel right after you swing a wood bat and make contact with a baseball. Too much pop will potentially break the bat. But if you have the right amount of pop, it can put extra power behind your hits and help your team win their games! The more pop in your wood bat, the more victorious your team can be.

A wood bat produces a truer, more consistent hit than a metal bat. The better balance and movement of a wooden bat is more predictable, allowing you to hit the ball harder, with more control and less effort. Wooden bats also allow hitters to hit the ball farther without giving up as much power or accuracy.

A good hit with a wood bat will come off the bat faster and go farther than the same hit with a metal bat. The sturdier construction of the wood bat means it's less elastic after impact, since it was meant to be made of hardwood (typically maple). This leads to increased ball speed, which results in a hit that goes farther. A typical wooden bat has 1-inch thickness and weighs about 34 ounces. It absorbs energy during a swing, transferring it to the ball. Such transfers in energy are important for creating the rotational kinetic energy.

When a hitter uses an aluminum bat, they can develop bad habits because they feel like they are getting away with mistiming the swing and still making good contact. This is because the feedback is different than that of an all wooden bat which requires much better timing since the bat feels more dead in the hands due to a smaller sweet spot.

The biggest difference between the two is that aluminum bats are longer and heavier, while wooden bats are shorter and lighter. A wooden bat gives feedback on your swing much quicker while also letting you see where you’re hitting the ball.
