### Top competitors comparison: The [Rawlings Velo ACP](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/rawlings/velo-acp/l164357) and the [Easton ADV 360](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/easton/adv-360/l59709)

Marucci's CAT X sets itself apart with its unique AZR alloy construction and anti-vibration technology. ### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* Decent pop and has good barrel control. It seems lighter due to the way it;s balanced. If you’re thinking of moving up in size, do it with this bat.
* I got my son the CAT X BBCOR 33" bat. He chose it over his Voodoo One for his high school varsity games. The CAT X seems well-built, and other players using it have had no issues. In contrast, two of his teammates' Voodoo One bats have already broken this season.
* The grip is cushioned and comfortable. The liquid gel handle reduces vibrations and the "sweet spot" on the barrel is forgiving. Highly recommend this bat.

**CONS**

* The BBCOR Cat X is by far the worst Marucci we've ever bought. It has NO Pop and sounds like he's hitting rocks with the bat. The ball barely leaves the infield when he hits it.
* Broken in by underhand toss of 160 pitches. Handle broke in a week. Wearing gloves saved the my son's hands.
* Unfortunately my son has been using this bat for only a few weeks and there is already something rattling in the handle.

### **Certification**: BBCOR and USSSA

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

CATX came out in 2023. The first gen is a white ribbon silver bat. For the second run, Marucci came out with a version called the CATX Vanta. It's a blacked-out, limited-edition. Both gens are an alloy one-piece bat, both very strong performers. They took the alloy and strength from the CAT9 and applied the balance and feel from the CAT8 to develop the CATX.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* It's an end-loaded bat, but it's very easy to swing. You have full control when going through the strike zone, no matter where the ball is over the plate.
* This bat allows you to maximize your swing speed for high ball exit velocities. The sweet spot is huge and covers almost the entire barrel of the bat, making the ball jump off the bat."
* It’s been used for about a month for cage work and early season practice. The ability to consistently barrel or square up on a pitch is better than any bat on the market. The connect version does minimize the vibration.

**CONS**

* The grip is slippery. Even with batting gloves on it’s hard to hold on to it. Easy fix with a lizard skin grip.
* Bat knob fell off after 1st time using, no pop!
* Used for one game and the knob sticker has come off already.

The CATX Connect is a hybrid bat. It's a strong performer. It's top five in the hybrid market. Very easy to swing, very well balanced. There's a good nature to it; it doesn't dent. It's very durable. But it is an end-loaded bat and a two-piece hybrid, so it's more designed for the power hitter and for stronger players.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* Bought for son transitioning to BBCOR. Light and balanced. Good pop and sound. Great balanced BBCOR bat!
* Like cheating, it’s awesome! Whole barrel is super hot. 33” sweet spot
* Bat has huge sweet spot. Lots of pop!

**CONS**

* My son's bat grip is separating already. The bat lacks the usual sound of CatX or Cat8 bats. We paid extra for the grip, but it's coming apart fast.
* The price doesn't deserve more than 4 stars, but we appreciate the fast shipping and the name engraving.
* Bought this bat for my 14 year old, felt good during batting practice, but the second he hit the ball in game it broke in half! 500 dollars down the drain.

### **Certification**: USSSA, BBCOR

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

The CAT X Composite is very, very easy to swing. Not quite as popular as the CF in terms of performance. There are newer Marucci bats out there that are stronger, hotter-performing bats. But it's still a top top-tier bat. It's right up there with the CAT9 composite, but it doesn't get the notoriety because you've got some newer bats on the market with cooler paint jobs.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

- Great for kids who need to "feel the barrel" during their swing. The ball jumps off this bat well. It has never collapsed and provides enough feedback to know how you hit it. Vibration is only felt when hitting the handle.

- "My 12-year-old son upgraded to a Marucci Cat 9 -5 bat from a 30" -8 bat and is hitting great with it. Although the bat is heavier, it is well-balanced and solid. Highly recommended for kids upgrading to a -5."

- Bought the Cat 9 BBCOR bat for my 13-year-old son. It's well-balanced and has good pop for a one-piece. Vibration-resistant knob helps with miss hits. My son loves it and is hitting the ball well.

**CONS**

- Good bat for my 10-year-old, but didn't hold up well in New England cold spring. Dead after one AAU season despite hard hits and dingers. Would have given 5 stars if it lasted longer.

- My son used this bat for 1 season and it has multiple dents in it. He is 12 and weighs about 70 pounds. Thought I would get more than 1 season out of the bat.

- Bought a bat for my 6-year-old son a year ago. It's good but lacks the power and balance of CATX Aluminum. Looking for sales to buy CATX.

### Certification: BBCOR

### Expert Notes ([Tony from BatExperts](https://sidelineswap.com/batexperts))

They took the same design from the CAT8 and strengthened the CAT9 with a stronger alloy to avoid any denting issues. It's a very good, durable bat. The CAT9 will be a bit heavier than the CAT8; it's a better bat for stronger kids. The first generation of the CAT9 came out with a gray, black, and red paint job. The second generation they called the Past Time, which was red, white, and blue. It's the same bat, but a different paint job. The second bat was more popular simply because of how it looked. Everyone likes the American Flag with its Stars and Stripes.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* This bat is one of the best options available for young players. It is USA-regulated and commonly used in little league. It offers excellent control and feel and has a large sweet spot for hitting home runs.
* I bought a new bat for my son a month ago since he had outgrown his old one. The new bat is longer and heavier, and he's happy with it. His game has improved since he started using it.
* Marucci's bat is lightweight, durable, and has an old-school sound when solid contact is made. My son has been hitting great with it.

**CONS**

* I like Marucci bats, but this is the 3rd time I've bought one that's heavier than listed. Bought a 28" 17 oz 2022 USA Cat for my 8 y/o son, but it weighed 19.3 oz. Will keep trying with Marucci, but they all tend to be heavier than listed.
* Purchased a 29” 18oz. bat, but it weighed 20.3 oz.
* I bought this product for my son and when I asked him to rate it, he gave it four stars. He explained that he didn't give it five stars because he feels too much vibration upon hits and it doesn't have the best pop.

### Expert Notes ([Tony from BatExperts](https://sidelineswap.com/batexperts))

The Marucci CAT is designed for Little League. It has that USA stamp, which means it has a lightweight feel and good control. The CAT has an affordable price point, so it won't break the bank. A lot of parents get this bat specifically because it's a quality bat with a good bang for the buck.

## Marucci CAT 8 Baseball Bats

The Marucci CAT 8 series is part of a lineup of bats consistently praised for outstanding performance and durability. The CAT 8 is a two-piece composite bat designed for a blend of power, speed, and control at the plate, with an expanded sweet spot to help hitters achieve their full potential. The series also serves as a testament to Marucci’s commitment to applying data and insights from professional hitters. Founded in a backyard shed in 2002, Marucci Sports has grown into one of the most reputable names in baseball equipment over the past 20 years.

**Perfect bat for:** Youth to college-level players who are in search of a bat that offers a blend of power, speed, and comfort.

###
Key features include:

* **AZ105 Super Strength Aluminum Alloy:** Offers thinner barrel walls for a higher response rate and unmatched durability.
* **Multi-variable Wall Design:** Expands the sweet spot and reduces weight, enhancing forgiveness and power.
* **Precision-balanced Barrel:** Designed for optimal swing speed and control, improving hitters' performance across all levels.
* **AV2 Anti-Vibration Knob:** Delivers a better feel and minimizes sting on mishits, ensuring comfort during every at-bat.
* **Ring-free Barrel Technology: **Increases flexibility and promotes maximum performance with no "dead" spots on the barrel.
* **Micro-Perforated Soft-Touch Grip:** Provides superior grip and comfort during every swing.

### Top competitors comparison: [The Louisville Slugger Omaha](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/louisville-slugger/omaha-2/l8755) and the [DeMarini Voodoo](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/demarini/voodoo/l7333)

Marucci CAT 8 particularly excels in its use of AZ105 alloy for durability and a thinner barrel for a higher response rate. While the Omaha and Voodoo are known for their balanced swing and innovative technology, the CAT 8 sets itself apart with its anti-vibration technology and multi-variable wall design, the cat 8 uses 8 different thicknesses of barrel wall, offering players a mix of comfort, power, and precision that is hard to beat.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* I am pleased to say that my son has experienced an increased exit speed and longer distances. He has noticed that the bat has an expanded sweet spot, resulting in more comfortable hits with less sting.
* My son had a few mishits but the ball still came off decently, and he mentioned that there was no vibration. I would recommend this bat, especially for younger kids who are improving their skills but still want success.
* A go-to choice when under pressure. It has a large sweet spot, providing a ton of power. The bat is also easy to swing and consistently achieves a higher exit velocity off the tee compared to a Cat9 alloy and 23' meta.

**CONS**

* I purchased the -8 version, which has a small sweet spot. The knob is great, but the grip is not as effective.
* If you are still 11, I suggest you get the drop ten because it has a bigger sweet spot and more pop due to its smaller aluminum content. Overall, it's a nice medium-swinging -8!
* I was unaware that this bat was the Junior version and only recommended for Coach Pitch.

### **Certification**: USA, USSSA, BBCOR

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

The CAT8 is an older model from 2019 and a good BBCOR and USSSA bat. Very good performing bat with a sound that players love. Lightweight and easy to swing. It's probably one of the best sellers, and since the CAT8 is still available, it's perhaps one of the better bang for the buck. Prices dropped for this older model. So, it is a good match for an entry-level player on a tight budget.

## Marucci CAT9 Composite Baseball Bat

The Marucci CAT 9 Composite bat represents a significant advancement in Marucci's approach to building bats for players who prefer the feel and performance of fully composite construction. Unlike its alloy counterparts within the CAT series, the CAT 9 Composite provides a massive barrel and balanced swing. With a philosophy deeply rooted in the insights and needs of actual players, Marucci’s Cat 9 Composite bat showcases the brand’s proficiency at using cutting-edge materials to elevate the performance of players at any age.

**Perfect bat for:** Both contact and power hitters who don’t mind a barrel-heavy bat.

### Key features include:

* **Multi-Directional Composite Material:** Creates an ultra-responsive barrel that offers a significant performance advantage across the entire hitting surface.
* **Maximum Barrel Length:** Provides a larger sweet spot and enhances the potential for off-center hits to still travel far and fast.
* **SDX LT Connection:** Reduces vibration on contact, delivering a more comfortable hitting experience without sacrificing power on swing-through.
* **Ring-Free Barrel Construction:** Eliminates dead spots for a more consistent performance and allows players to take full advantage of the bat's technical design.
* **Micro-Perforated Soft-Touch Grip:** Ensures comfortable, secure handling even in rigorous play conditions, reducing hand fatigue and enhancing control.
* **Balanced Swing Weight:** Optimizes bat speed and control, offering a perfect blend for hitters who value precision as much as power.

### Top competitors comparison: [DeMarini CF Zen](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/demarini/cf-zen-2020/l8432) and the [Easton ADV 360](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/easton/adv-360/l59709)

The Marucci Cat 9 Composite shines with its use of multi-directional composite materials, enabling a level of responsiveness and barrel performance that's hard to match. While the DeMarini CF Zen is praised for its consistently strong performance across the barrel and the Easton ADV 360 offers revolutionary 360-degree barrel tuning, the Cat 9 Composite distinguishes itself with a superior balance between speed, power, and comfort, courtesy of its meticulous engineering and vibration-dampening connection technology. This makes the Cat 9 Composite a top choice for youth players aiming to elevate their game with a bat that delivers fluidity and force in equal measure.

**CONS**

* A few hits scuff paint off bat.
* When it doesn’t get hit on the sweet spot it doesn’t go very far and stings.
* It's a lilttle pricey and i already broke it... but i am going to buy a new one

### Expert Notes ([Tony from BatExperts](https://sidelineswap.com/batexperts))

The CAT9 Composite comes in two designs across two generations. The first, released in 2021, is gray, black, and red. And then it came out in red, white, blue, and gray. The first model was a more powerful, higher-performing bat. It has more exit velocity and is a hotter bat than the 2nd gen. Very durable, with very little breakage. Marucci's, across the board, have been good bats in terms of quality; they seem to last. Whether you're a power hitter or a small kid, the CAT9 Composite does very well.

CAT Composite

x DK CATX Alloy

CAT6 Alloy

### Product Description

One of the earlier iterations in Marucci’s CAT series, the BBCOR-certified CAT6 got high praise when it first came out for its advancements in bat technology. Marucci took feedback from players and paid particular attention to reducing vibration in the top hand, as this is a common complaint -- particularly among amateur players. Marucci has acquired a patented new anti-vibration technology that blows the competition away. Impressively, the vibration dampening rate on the CAT6 is 5.6 times higher than its competition. You can also be assured that the CAT6 will give you a swing as smooth as butter. The CAT6 is a one-piece bat constructed from some of the most responsive alloy available.

### Expert Notes

The Marucci CAT 6 has been one of the highest rated bats ever. It has a middle of the road swing weight and uses the same proprietary knob found in new CAT bats from Marucci.

As a general sentiment, we’d recommend this bat for any player that prefers the stiff feel of a single piece bat and is looking for a real value purchase. The CAT 6 is ideal for hitters who like a balanced bat and the honest feel and power that come from a one-piece bat, but who also want to avoid any associated sting. For 2019, the CAT 6 features a very glossy pearl white with a hurricane circular design.

The BBCOR version of the CAT 6 features a handle that transitions into the knob. The larger widening handle increases your bottom hand’s contact with the bat. Those who like a skinny bottom hand handle can unwrap the tape and remove the plastic shaped cone on the bottom of the handle.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* My son loves the 30", 5oz Easton Fire bat. It's hot straight out of the wrapper and feels lighter than his old one. The colors are bold but the grip is great. It has a normal composite bat sound and a well-balanced swing with a lot of pop. Highly recommended.
* My son switched to Easton Hype Fire bat after being a fan of Marucci for years. He loves the huge sweet spot, lighter weight and tons of pop. According to him, it's the perfect bat for USSSA.
* I love to see the confidence this bat gives my son. He's a very strong hitter, but with this bat, I see him being more patient, trusting his swing more, and hitting harder balls.

**CONS**

* My son used this bat for about 2-3 months before small cracks in the bat started to form. He still used it because his old bat (30-inch -8 Demarini Zoa) was broken. It is an amazing bat but it probably won't last a full season in 13U baseball because of the speed.
* My son's new bat, a 30" (-8), has a small 1/2" crack after just two sessions of coach pitch BP with around 50 hits. It's brittle and we've never used it on a tee or machine. I'm surprised at how quickly it broke.

The Hype Fire is the hottest, lightest swinging bat right now. The swing rate is very fast. It's a balanced, two piece composite bat. The first ones that came out had some breakage issues but they are now on that bat's second gen. We've not seen any of the new ones breaking. And to top it all off, it has the coolest paint job. The flames are yellow, orange, and red. The players love that.

The big barrels on the Marucci CAT X Composite and the Louisville Slugger META, both feature flexible-feeling two-piece composite constructions. In comparison, the 2023 Rawlings Icon stands out with its In/Tense carbon composite construction which maximizes barrel size while maintaining it’s stiffness, perfect for big hitters. ### Progression of the Rawlings ICON Baseball Bat:

2023 is the first year of the Rawlings ICON.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

- The Rawlings Icon is a beast on the field. Hits are powerful and consistent.

- The sweet spot on this thing is like a magnet for the ball. It's tough as nails and can take a beating, which is exactly what you need in the game.

- It's light and easy to swing. The ICON gives me control on the barrel. It feels lighter than other -3 bats. There is ZERO sting on this carbon composite. The ICON has a HUGE sweet spot and pop

**CONS**

- The stock grip is just kinda okay – not as sticky or comfy as I expected. It's no deal-breaker, though. Folks generally like to tweak their grips to suit their style.

- I'm not a big fan of the tapered knob on the ICON because I like to feel the handle more at the bottom (purely preference), but the handle feels fantastic.

- The barrel cracked at the base of the handle. Travel ball practice starts this week and his brand new Icon is useless.

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

The ICON is the new hot bat from Rawlings. It's the top bat in the market right now. In terms of sales, very popular. You've got a lot of guys online doing reviews on it. I think the hype comes from the merger between Easton and Rawlings. They've got a lot of technology and have come up with a really strong-performing bat this season.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* My 14-year-old son needed a new BBCOR bat. He likes the one he got as it swings light and the barrel seems huge, although it's very loud.
* My son has been swinging a Cat X composite. I was not seeing the bat speed I thought he should have by now, I bought him the Atlas and from the first swing I saw a difference on bat speed.
* Balanced bat with a massive sweet spot which makes it easy to catch barrel. As well as great improvements in durability.

**CONS**

* Loudest bat especially in cages. Bat has a rattle in it and we have only had it 3 months.
* The bat has so much vibration.
* Way to loud. It's distracting.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

- My son hit three home runs with the Goods bat at a college prospect camp this weekend. He says the current version feels amazing and is the best one yet.

- I upgraded to this bat from my broken 2022 Goods. It has phenomenal pop and is the best in the Goods line.

- This bat bangs!!! I bought this bat three weeks ago and this barrel is huge!

**CONS**

- My son loved this bat from day one. After three weeks of use the plastic piece where the shaft meets the barrel cracked. Definitely expect something better than this for $450. Haven't started the warranty process yet so we'll see how that goes.

- The bat handle now telescopes into the barrel after the junction cracked. We had expected better quality for the price and it's hard to accept a replacement that arrives 2-3 weeks later at best.

- Bat bought 2 months ago broke when I dropped it. It's a good bat but not very durable. Connector piece broke and it telescoped.

### Expert Notes ([Tony from BatExperts](https://sidelineswap.com/batexperts))

The Goods is a top performer and the 2024 model is the most expensive hybrid bat on the market. It's an end loaded bat for that power hitter in your lineup. The alloy is strong, and it has a good whip to it. Overall, The Goods is in the top five in the hybrids for both BBCOR and youth. The youth was less popular because it was a heavier-feeling.

**PROS**

- It has a large sweet spot, making it perfect for power hitters to hit balls off and over the fence, even in colder weather.

- This bat is amazing! With a slight end load and tons of pop, it's the perfect choice for any player. We're so happy we made this purchase - it's definitely worth it!

- This bat has a huge sweet spot, is super forgiving on the hands, has no vibration in the handle, and is more durable than other bbcor bats.

**CONS**

- Unfortunately, after the first tournament it already has a slight rattle in the barrel.

- I purchased this bat a month ago. After hitting two foul balls, the bat got scratched beyond my expectations.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* This bat has a fantastic feel, sound, and performance on miss-hits. It boasts one of the largest sweet spots in BBCOR. Although it lacks feedback, it is very easy to swing.
* Great feel and pop. Although I usually change grips, the stock grip on this bat is solid. The durability is very impressive as well, as the bat has already outlasted most others.
* No failures on Meta bats except cosmetic chips. They perform better than new. High school varsity team used 32-3 for 2 years without issues. Change grip tape yearly and keep hitting!

**CONS**

* The finish will chip if hit against spikes.
* It's expensive.... and not crazy about the color.
* This bat has no pop.

### **Certification**: BBCOR, USSSA

### Expert Notes (Parker)

The Louisville Slugger Meta is still a slightly newer model. The meta is similar to the DeMarini CF which offers a lightweight composite handle with a huge barrel made for every sort of hitter. ### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* This is an excellent one-piece bat with a balanced feel.
* My son is using his first BBCOR bat. Although he was previously using a -5 USSSA bat, he hasn't noticed any difference in the weight. He has already had success with it on the big ball field this fall. This one-piece alloy bat is great, especially in the Northeast where temperatures are cooler.
* I am very satisfied with this bat. My son has recently started playing on a 60/90 field. This bat has excellent balance and a large sweet spot. It has great pop right out of the wrapper, so there is no need to break it in. Additionally, it looks great too.

**CONS**

* Bat is too light, causing players to swing early. It doesn't have as much power as a BBCOR composite bat.
* Not suitable for heavy hitters; ideal for children who require a lighter bat for swinging. Grip must be perfect, or it will sting hands.
* The sound changed, and when the handle was tapped on the ground, it produced a vibrating sound.

DeMarini's Voodoo One swings light and offers a ton of pop thanks to its stiff one-piece alloy construction. While the small barrel might not be for everyone, contact hitters and power swingers both appreciate its speed and distance potential. If you're a player seeking a light bat with serious pop, the Voodoo One deserves a swing.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* Good bat, with less pop than 1-piece aluminum. Ideal for singles with a lighter swing weight. Composite material, so have 2 bats for high competition.
* My son is 11 years old. I was worried he would struggle to swing a 30/20 bat this year, considering he used a 29/19 bat last year. However, this bat is amazing! It is hot right out of the wrapper. I wouldn't even think about using another bat this year; this one is perfect.
* This is the best overall USA bat on the market. It has decent pop and great balance, making it a high-quality option.

**CONS**

* "The bat developed cracks in the sweet spot from regular use during batting practice. After six months, the cracks grew larger until there were two major ones, resembling a cave-in."
* Bat has pop but I've had a couple of friends crack this same bat after 4 games.
* Bought it for my son, 2nd time he used it, it cracked. He only hit league baseballs with it in warm weather.

### Expert Notes ([Tony from BatExperts](https://sidelineswap.com/batexperts))

The CF Zen has been discontinued. The early models from 2017 - 2021 were called CF Zens. After that, DeMarini changed the name to CF. The first models of the CF Zen were very high-performance. But they also tended to break, so DeMarini made them stronger, made them stiffer, made them more durable. And when they did that, the bats didn't hit as well. The early models were better performers than the later models.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* A kid in a slump hit his first-ever home run with this bat. It arrived just in time for a playoff game and worked great for my average-sized 11-year-old son - not too heavy.
* After breaking in this bat properly, it really performs well! My son uses it for our USSSA 8U Travel team and you can easily tell when it's hit on the sweet spot. The bat is also forgiving on mis-hits, often resulting in faster grounders than usual (for this age group) and very high pop.
* This bat has more pop than most USA bats, similar to BBCOR/USSA. We broke it in with tee hits, and my son hit missiles and balls over the fence on the first day. Expensive, but worth it for avid players.

**CONS**

* Great indoor results with the new non-Easton bat during coach pitch pre-season. Disappointing mid-season pop-up infield hits. I've always used Easton before, won't try other brands again.
* Great pop, but poor performance when missing sweet spot. Treated with care, but still cracked in Apr. Son upset I didn't allow use in cold weather, with heavy balls or pitching machines. It was mostly used as game bat last year, did not last into 2nd season.
* My son's bat barrel cracked after hitting his first HR, leaving him without a bat during All Stars and elimination series.

### Expert Notes (Parker)

The DeMarini CF is a classic model that goes back to 2015 and offers one of the hottest models (2017) but is limited in use as its performance surpasses bat standards. Overall, the CF reflects a classic design which has been the same since 2015. A two-piece composite that offers a large barrel and sweet spot with a lightweight handle that creates a whip-like feel to it with the flexible connection between the handle and barrel.

### Expert Notes
Endurance is the name of the game when it comes to Easton’s Mako bat series. Despite being discontinued in 2017, Easton Mako bats continue to sell very well in the modern market. This two-piece composite bat offers an additional jolt of pop at the plate, and its anti-vibration technology makes getting jammed a little less painful—physically, at least. The 2016 Easton Mako, in particular, has ascended into baseball bat folklore because of its neon green colorway and insane ability to demolish baseballs (although some hitters prefer the orange 2015 model, too). Considering the fantastic prices you can find Easton Mako’s listed at, it remains a top metal bat value pick.
