Hockey players come in different shapes and sizes, and so do their hockey bags.

Hockey bag sizes are generally broken up into five categories:

  • Senior (large)
  • Intermediate (medium)
  • Junior (small)
  • Youth
  • Goalie

Senior bags are 36 inches and up, intermediate bags fall somewhere between 32-36 inches, junior bags are 30-32 inches, and youth bags will be anything smaller than that. Of course, goalie bags will be the biggest at around 42 inches.

Along with sizing, you’ll also want to consider other features when shopping for a hockey bag. None of these features are mandatory, but some may enhance your experience depending on your wants and needs.

Wheels

Some hockey bags come with wheels on the bottom, allowing you to wheel the bag around instead of carrying it over the shoulder. This can be especially useful for younger, smaller players who may not yet have the strength to carry a bag independently.

Exterior Pockets

Some hockey bags feature an exterior pocket that can store small items like tape, wax, sharpening stones, pucks, or other necessities.

Interior Compartments

You can also find bags with large interior compartments, normally used to store skates or helmets.
