The Stallion 1K is the top midfielder head for sure. It's based on the original Stallion design that pro player Kyle Harrison used and designed for that two-way midfielder. The 1K has an improved stiffness, shape retention, and an updated scoop. PLL rookie, Nick Nakeie Montgomery, who ranked 28th in Duke history in career points, also uses this head. I like this head because it can be used both on the offensive side of midfield and the defensive side. It weighs in at about 4.7 oz, making it lighter than the current ECD DNA 2.0, StringKing Mark 2V, and Mark 2T.

The STX Hammer is widely regarded as one of the best defensive heads available. The head features new technologies like the speed scoop, C-Channel, and the strike plate on the sidewall. The speed scoop combined with the wide top of the head helps create a greater variety of approach angles for ground balls; that, plus it facilitates a smoother release to increase speed and accuracy. The C-Channel technology helps add strength and stability while creating a tighter channel for the ball to be funneled into while also improving stiffness for heavy checks. In addition, the strike plate on either sidewall adds to the impact area when throwing checks while also increasing strength and stiffness. Overall, the head has a very wide design to help defensive players better pick off passes and scoop ground balls in traffic. The STX Hammer is a universally legal head great for LSM’s and close defenders to help improve their power and accuracy while giving hard hits and checks.

The STX Duel 3 is designed for the face-off and stay-on midfielder. This head is made with STX’s Reflex material to help hold the shape a lot longer, so you can continue to use it for offense or defense after the face-off. The top of the head has a slimmed-down scoop that’s designed for face-offs and to make ground balls easier. It has a shorter throat to make the top hand position closer to the ball for more control. It has 4 screw holes on the throat to ensure the head doesn’t rattle.

As a result, the Surgeon 500 is mainly recommended for youth players or adult rec league players, where the rules are not as strict.
