Waist and Closure Design: Goalie pants typically have a higher waistline and a more adjustable, secure fit to help prevent them from riding down or shifting during play. The pants also usually have a belt or tie system that keeps them in place while allowing flexibility.

Lower Back Protection: Many goalie pants have built-in lower back protection. This is crucial because goalies often experience a lot of falls, twists, and contact to the back.

Fit Around the Thighs and Knees: They tend to be bulkier around the thigh area to prevent pucks from hitting sensitive spots. The knee pads are often much more reinforced, and some pants even have special features for enhanced knee protection (like extended padding that covers the entire knee region).

Weight Distribution: Goalie pants are made to balance protection and mobility, so while they might be heavier than regular player pants, they’re designed to keep a goalie’s center of gravity lower and help with stability during plays.
