The Bauer Mach sits squarely opposite the CCM Premier II in terms of target audience and performance. Both cater to intermediate and advanced goalies, offering a solid blend of value and performance. The Bauer Mach has a slightly stiffer feel compared to the Premier II. This can provide a more traditional feel that some goalies prefer. True Hockey’s L12.2 line is renowned for its focus on lightweight construction and a more active fit, ideal for goalies who rely on quick movements and agility. Compared to the Premier II, the True L12.2 might feel even lighter and more flexible, although some goalies find it lacks the same level of structure.

Progression of the CCM Premier II Pro

The CCM Premier II features upgraded specs and tech. Here are a few main upgrades from the Premier 1 model:

  • Updated Speed Skin

  • 20% weight reduction across each pad

  • A redesigned boot angle

  • A redesigned softer, grippy knee landing

  • Max Rebound foams throughout the pad's face

  • A new Velcro setup across the fingers of the glove to give a better fit on the inside

  • The new one-piece cuff is a large foam piece that completely wraps around the wrist and fills any negative space between the wrist and the back of the blocker board

  • Bindingless blocker not only on the face but on the sidewall, too

  • A new sidewall shape, keeping the blocker tight to the body while in the butterfly

👍 Pros
Thinner profile than the P1. I like the twos so much better. Way less clunky and cumbersome.
I feel really square in this gear. Despite being lighter, I feel a bit bigger and bulkier (in a good way) while wearing this gear.
The pucks fly off these things.
👎 Cons
The Speed Skin is a bit slower than other sliding-specific materials, and it definitely loses some of its zip on choppy ice.
The standard toe strings on the Premier II are an outdated toe design.
I'm not crazy about the price. I'm a beginner goalie and need something more affordable.
The CCM Premier II Pro is on the stiffer side and sits higher on the body. It's made for a goalie who wants to rely on their positioning. It is a flat face pad, so rebounds are predictable and push away nicely. It's known for having a very specific inside edge of the pad. So when you drop down into the butterfly, it has less contact area to the ice. Many people like it because it slides better if it's not touching the ice as much.
