At the youth hockey level, you should prioritize fit, comfort and level of protection over cost and brand name when you’re buying gear. This rule applies even more when you're buying hockey protective gear such as gloves. To get your child's correct glove fit, you need to measure the distance from the base of his or her palm to the tip of their middle finger and multiply the measurement (in inches) by two. Their wrist should be fully covered by the cuff of the glove and their fingertips shouldn't protrude past the end of their glove’s fingertips. Gloves that are too small won't offer adequate protection, while gloves that are too large will inhibit mobility.
