Ping G425 MAX Fairway Wood

Targeting golfers seeking distance and forgiveness, the Ping G425 MAX Fairway Wood features a combination of technologies. Its signature maraging steel Facewrap technology creates a larger sweet spot and flexes at impact, maximizing ball speed for longer shots on both center and off-center hits. Additionally, a low center of gravity design promotes a higher launch angle, making it easier to get the ball airborne for more distance and overall forgiveness on mishits.

Perfect fairway woods for:
Golfers who want a club that delivers distance and forgiveness without sacrificing accuracy.

Key features include:

Maraging Steel FacewrapIncreases flexing across the face at impact, leading to faster ball speeds and potentially greater distance.
SpinsistencyA complex curvature design on the face with a slightly reduced loft near to normalize spin across the face, particularly on lower strikes where golfers tend to lose distance due to excessive spin.
Tungsten WeightingThis high-density tungsten sole weight is strategically positioned to add forgiveness by increasing the MOI.
Proprietary ShaftThis shaft is counter-balanced with 8 grams of weight in the end to add momentum and forgiveness.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max fairway wood is designed to be forgiving and high-launching. It features a large sweet spot and a low center of gravity to help you get the ball airborne easily. It also has TaylorMade's Twist Face technology, which helps to straighten out off-center hits. The Titleist TSi3 fairway wood also features a large sweet spot and a low center of gravity and has Titleist’s SureFit Technology, which allows you to adjust the loft and lie angle of the club to fit your swing.

Progression of the G425 Max fairway wood:

The predecessor to the Ping G425 MAX fairway wood is the Ping G410. Here's a breakdown of the improvements made in the G425 MAX:

  • Higher Forgiveness: The G425 MAX boasts a significantly higher Moment of Inertia (MOI) compared to the G410. MOI is a measure of a club's resistance to twisting on off-center hits, translating to straighter and more forgiving shots.
  • Increased Distance: The G425 MAX features a thinner, faster face thanks to advancements in material technology. This allows for more ball speed and potentially longer distances on well-struck shots.
  • More Adjustability: While the standard G425 MAX doesn't offer adjustability, some variations like the G425 LST (Low Spin Technology) come with a movable weight for fine-tuning launch and spin characteristics. This wasn't available in the G410.
  • Aerodynamic Design: The G425 MAX has a refined aerodynamic design that may improve clubhead speed through the swing, potentially contributing to more distance.
👍 Pros
It hits straight and has a great feel. I highly recommend this wood.
I’ve been pleased with the performance. The feel and sound have been excellent.
The thing that surprised me most is how straight and consistent this club has been.
👎 Cons
On my very first swing the head broke off. It was a clean contact.
This sounds like I am hitting an empty tin can and does not seem to have anything special to it.
The club feels heavy and the shaft seems to lack that whip at impact to get the ball launching.
The Ping G425 Max is the base model and the easiest one to hit. There is also the LST model, which stands for lower spin tech. It will be smaller and harder to hit, but for golfers with plenty of swing speed and accuracy in their ball striking, the LST will put out a lot more distance. The SFT model is for the higher handicapped golfers because it helps prevent slicing. Good clubs all around.
