Ping G2 Golf Drivers

Launched in 2004, the Ping G2 Driver revolutionized the sport with its massive, confidence-inspiring 460cc head size, one of the first commercially successful drivers to do so. This innovation, coupled with internal weighting for a lower center of gravity and more distance, made the G2 Driver immensely forgiving on off-center hits. The G2's focus on forgiveness and performance gains over previous drivers, along with its success on professional tours, propelled it to become one of the most popular golf drivers of all time, excelling in both distance and accuracy for a wide range of golfers.

Perfect driver for:
Nostalgic golfers who seek significant confidence at address.

Key features include:

Maxed-Out 460cc Titanium HeadFor supreme confidence, distance, and forgiveness.

Top Competitors

Both the TaylorMade SIM 2 Max and Callaway Rogue ST MAX prioritize similar goals as the Ping G2, offering large head sizes for confidence and achieving forgiveness through features like V Steel technology (SIM 2 Max) and an A.I. designed face (Rogue ST MAX). However, the Rogue ST MAX adds a layer of adjustability with its loft sleeve, a feature absent on the G2. While modern materials and design might offer the SIM 2 Max and Rogue ST MAX some edge in forgiveness, the G2's pioneering oversized head design laid the groundwork for this focus on forgiveness that continues to influence driver development today.

Progression of the G2 driver:

PING launched its TiSi titanium driver in 1998, and shortly after, in 2004, introduced the first in its G line of drivers, the G2.

The G2 Driver was a major leap forward for Ping and the golf industry. It was one of the first commercially successful drivers to feature a 460cc clubhead size, which was massive compared to previous drivers. The Ping G2 was eventually superseded in the Ping lineup by the G5 driver, which came out about one year after the G2.

👍 Pros
I love this driver. It's still the easiest and most accurate driver I've hit yet. This club was MONEY all day when I used it.
Especially in the lower lofts for me, the G2 is a long, fairway machine.
The head gives you loads of confidence, I haven't found a better driver.
👎 Cons
The head feels very heavy compared to modern drivers.
In the 15+ years since the G2 came out, other models have come along that will gain you more distance with better tech.
Shafts have gotten better since the G2's inception.
The Ping G2 Driver is for those seeking a classic feel with surprising forgiveness. While definitely not the latest and greatest, it's a sleeper for golfers who prioritize control over raw distance. The G2 has a forged titanium face and is known for its crisp feel at impact, and it provides more feedback than some modern drivers. It won't be the longest driver out there, and won't have fancy adjustability features. But for golfers who value a timeless design that still holds its own, the Ping G2 Driver is a great option, especially at the used prices you can find these days.
