Materials Of A Football Helmet
Football helmets are designed with specific materials and features to provide maximum protection, comfort, and performance.
Outer Shell:
- Polycarbonate or ABS Plastic. Most football helmets have a shell made from durable plastic, often polycarbonate or ABS. These materials are lightweight yet strong, designed to absorb and distribute the force of impacts to reduce injury risk.
Inner Padding:
- Expanded Polyurethane (EPS): Inside the helmet, the padding is typically made from EPS foam, which helps absorb shock and impact forces. The foam is lightweight and compresses on impact to reduce the force transferred to the head.
- Memory Foam: Some helmets use memory foam for better comfort and a customized fit, molding to the shape of the player's head over time.
