### Top competitors comparison: [Marucci CAT X Composite](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/marucci/cat-x-composite/l175805) and the [Louisville Slugger Meta](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/louisville-slugger/meta/l59403)

The big barrels on the Marucci CAT X Composite and the Louisville Slugger META, both feature flexible-feeling two-piece composite constructions. In comparison, the 2023 Rawlings Icon stands out with its In/Tense carbon composite construction which maximizes barrel size while maintaining it’s stiffness, perfect for big hitters. Each bat caters to specific league regulations and player preferences, with the CAT X Composite and META offering composite technology, while the Rawlings Icon features a zero-loss collar and connection joint creating a smooth connection between handle and barrel.

### Progression of the Rawlings ICON Baseball Bat:

2023 is the first year of the Rawlings ICON.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

- The Rawlings Icon is a beast on the field. Hits are powerful and consistent.

- The sweet spot on this thing is like a magnet for the ball. It's tough as nails and can take a beating, which is exactly what you need in the game.

- It's light and easy to swing. The ICON gives me control on the barrel. It feels lighter than other -3 bats. There is ZERO sting on this carbon composite. The ICON has a HUGE sweet spot and pop

**CONS**

- The stock grip is just kinda okay – not as sticky or comfy as I expected. It's no deal-breaker, though. Folks generally like to tweak their grips to suit their style.

- I'm not a big fan of the tapered knob on the ICON because I like to feel the handle more at the bottom (purely preference), but the handle feels fantastic.

- The barrel cracked at the base of the handle. Travel ball practice starts this week and his brand new Icon is useless.

### Certification: BBCOR, USSSA, and USA

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

The ICON is the new hot bat from Rawlings. It's the top bat in the market right now. In terms of sales, very popular. You've got a lot of guys online doing reviews on it. I think the hype comes from the merger between Easton and Rawlings. They've got a lot of technology and have come up with a really strong-performing bat this season.

Threat Composite

### Expert Notes
Rawlings wanted to create a bat that’s meant specifically for smaller framed
players—and that’s just what they did with the Threat. The newest 2022 Threat comes
in an awesome Stars and Stripes themed colorway that we all
love, and delivers on its promise of enabling smaller hitters to swing with extra speed
through the strike zone. The 2022 Threat has evolved from when the series started in
2018 by adding even more width to an already expansive barrel—although I’ve heard
young hitters still love the 2019 Threat, as well (if only because of its neon green
colorway). If you seek a one piece composite bat that isn’t going to break the bank and
will benefit those who haven’t yet grown into their natural power, the Rawlings Threat
series stands alone.

Rawlings has been an iconic name in baseball equipment since 1887, and the Quatro Pro series is the most technologically advanced bat the brand has ever designed. Every detail of the Quatro Pro is the result of number-crunching and meticulous engineering, intended to elevate each aspect of a player's swing. This bat is perfect for hitters looking for maximum bat speed.

### Top competitors comparison: [The Louisville Slugger Meta](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/louisville-slugger/meta/l59403) and the [DeMarini CF Zen](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/baseball/bats/demarini/cf-zen-2020/l8432)

The Rawlings Quatro Pro stands out for its four-piece composite construction and Focused Flex Technology, offering unparalleled pop and reduced vibration. While the Meta emphasizes its premium alloy barrel for a massive sweet spot, and the CF Zen is celebrated for its balanced swing weight and 3Fusion Connection system that optimizes energy transfer, the Quatro Pro's unique combination of technologies ensures a superior feel, outstanding performance, and minimum hand sting, making it a preferred choice among competitive hitters.

### What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

**PROS**

* I initially bought the end-loaded Pro Max bat, but it failed the NCAA bat testing. So, I tried the Quatro Pro bat and was surprised by its pop, even though it sometimes feels too light.
* If you are searching for a composite bat that offers balance, then this bat is a fantastic choice.
* The Quatro Pro has a lot of pop and zero vibration. It has a good sweat spot and is all-around a good bat.

**CONS**

* My son enjoyed using the Rawlings bat and liked the popping sound. However, the knob broke off after only six months of use. We contacted Rawlings and they sent us a new bat as a replacement. Unfortunately, the knob on the new bat broke off again after just three months of use.
* Small sweet spot and weird swing weight
* Rawlings 2-piece bats are inferior quality they break easy and can’t withstand use over time.

### **Certification**:

USA Baseball, USSSA, and BBCOR

### Expert Notes ([Tony](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/batexperts))

The Quatro Pro launched in 2019. Even today, it's one of the hottest bats out there. If you can find one, the Quatro Pro is a great performer; it is lightweight, easy to swing, and has a ton of pop. Probably one of the top five BBCOR bats of all time.

The first two years had breakage issues. Since then, Rawlings has made some adjustments to the barrel, thickened the sidewalls and made the bat more durable, but in doing so, they lessened the performance. The later models are not as popular as the early ones.

Prodigy Alloy

### Expert Notes
The Rawlings Prodigy youth bat series explains in its name that those who swing it are set for success. The 2022 Prodigy bat is a favorite within USA baseball leagues because of its extremely lightweight feel and red/orange color combination. The one- piece alloy bat was first released in 2017, and Rawlings has remained committed to providing an affordable yet effective Prodigy bat model every year since. Besides looks, I’ve noticed that not much has changed between the earliest Prodigy bat and the most recent release—but that’s because youth hitters clearly have no complaints about this model. The Rawlings Prodigy bat series is proof that, sometimes, keeping it simple is best for success.

5150 Alloy

### Expert Notes
The Rawlings 5150 series is the ultimate workman’s bat. The most recent 2023 Rawlings 5150 furthered the end loaded, heavier feel and extra stiffness that we loved its predecessors for, while adding a brand new bat grip that hitters I’ve spoken to say provides unmatched comfort at the plate. Although some of these hitters also miss the neon green 5150 releases from 2016 and 2017, the model’s evolution can be clearly traced through this bat’s commitment to one piece, alloy bats that care about performance over cosmetics. The Rawlings 5150 is a blue-collar, power hitter’s bat that I’d recommend for anyone who’s looking to pad their home run stats.

### Product Description

Axe Avenge BBCOR certified bats deliver ACR hitting zone technology for maximum barrel performance, power, and speed. With a 270 degree engineered hitting zone, the Avenge is designed for maximum performance, strength, and durability. The perfect combination of power and speed, the Avenge utilizes carbon hyperwhip end cap technology to reduce weight distribution at the end of the baseball bat and a vibration canceling system (VCS) to reduce hand vibrations for a smoother shock absorbing swing. Added in 2019, the 3-piece composite bat construction and the charged carbon barrel provides improved performance along the length of the barrel in addition to a lighter swinging bat that feels smoother on mishits. The flex handle with shock absorbing endogrid technology built into the handle maximizes whip through the hitting zone, enhances overall comfort, and reduces bottom hand vibrations.

### Product Description

Are you a middle-of-the-order hitter? Do you prefer a longer barrel? Are you looking for a baseball bat that offers the perfect blend of flex, balance, and distance from the plate? Well, may we suggest the Rawlings Quatro? Quatro bats are known for their killer performance for hitters at all levels of the game.

Rawlings’ patented hinge system provides a focused flex, which helps hitters generate incredible pop. A lightweight endcap reduces swing weight and helps generate great swing speed, while vibration dampening technology reduces hand sting to prevent any pain when you make contact with a pitch. For elite level hitters, be sure to check out the Quatro College/High School Bat (-3), or the 2018 Quatro USA Baseball Bat (-10).

### Expert Notes

The Rawlings Quatro features a decent sized barrel and has little to no feedback on the hands during mishits. It’s one of the best BBCOR bat options out there, in our opinion. The exit speed is phenomenal, and the only drawback we’ve noticed is that it’s not very durable.

The only major difference between the 2018 Quatro and the 2017 version is the swing weight. Although the swing weight change is not very dramatic (aka they did not go all the way from an end load to a balanced) it is enough to make a noticeable difference. The swing weight change was created by the redevelopment of the end cap and the extended inner sleeve. More bulk was removed from those elements, which caused the swing weight to drop significantly. The principle is simple enough: the more weight that is taken from the end of a bat, the less strength is required to spin it around by the knob. This insight relies on the basic principles of Mass Moment of Inertia (or MOI).
