Softball leg guards must fit securely to protect against injuries. When you’re measuring for leg pads, no matter what size you wear, it is important to make sure they are not too small. Measure your leg from the middle of your knee cap (patella) to the base of your ankle bone (tibia). Leg guards come in sizes ranging from 12 inches to 16 inches, though some manufacturers offer custom options outside the standard range.
In general there are some very slight design differences between softball and baseball leg guards. Many softball leg guards are lighter and have slightly smaller, narrower toe guards than their baseball counterparts. Also, some softball leg guards have a double knee cup whereas many baseball leg guards have a triple knee cup
