GNU Riders Choice Snowboard

The GNU Riders Choice Snowboard features the new 3-D Delightwood Asym Chip construction, which distributes energy to your edges, enhancing pop, power, and performance. The asymmetrical design, slightly wider widths, and C2 Hybrid contours provide exceptional rail control, floatability, and maneuverability. The eco-minded construction with poppy carbon ensures durability and longevity. With its rider-focused design, the GNU Riders Choice is a top-tier choice for any snowboarder.

Perfect board for:
Riders who want a board that is stable, agile, and easy to land.
I’ve ridden different versions of this board since 2005. I’m still impressed with its well-rounded radness every time I strap in. I prefer sizing up the length and width (166W) to chase deeper snow, but the extra weight doesn’t hold this board down in the park. It jumps, jibs, and hauls ass. One of the best, most consistent snowboard models ever produced.

FAQs: GNU Riders Choice Snowboard

Q: Is the GNU Riders Choice good for beginners?
A: Not really. It’s best for progressing intermediates to advanced riders. The C2 hybrid profile (rocker between feet, camber underfoot) and Magne-Traction edges are forgiving yet capable, but the flex and asymmetrical twin design shine more once you’ve gained confident edge control.

Q: What camber profile does the Riders Choice use?
A: GNU’s C2 hybrid: mild rocker between your feet with camber under each binding. You get easy turn initiation, stability, and pop, plus strong edge hold from Magne‑Traction. It’s best for all‑mountain/park riding.

Q: What’s the flex rating of the Riders Choice?
A: Typically medium to medium‑stiff depending on size/year (about 5–7/10). That balance provides pop and stability for jumps and carving without feeling punishing. Check the specific year’s flex on the listing and the manufacturer’s chart. Compare similar boards on SidelineSwap.

Q: What size Riders Choice should I get?
A: Choose by weight and style. Size down slightly for park/trees; size up for speed/stability. Match the manufacturer’s weight chart first, then adjust for preference. Check our sizing guide.

Quick guide:

  • Freestyle focus: size down 1–2 cm
  • All‑mountain: follow chart
  • Stability/speed: size up 1–2 cm

Q: Is the GNU Riders Choice asymmetrical?
A: Yes. It’s an asym twin with a heelside‑specific sidecut to make heelside turns easier and more natural. Both regular and goofy riders benefit by matching their stance to the board’s reference.

Q: Does the Riders Choice come in wide?
A: Yes—“wide” or larger waist options fit bigger boots (usually US men’s 11+). Reduces toe/heel drag at lower angles. Use the “Wide” filter here and compare waist widths in each listing’s specs. Learn more about choosing a wide snowboard

Q: Is the Riders Choice good for powder?
A: It handles moderate pow thanks to the rocker and twin shape, but it’s not a dedicated powder board. Set your stance back on deep days and consider sizing up slightly. For max float, see directional and/or pow boards.

Q: What terrain is the Riders Choice best for?
A: All‑mountain and park. It’s a do‑it‑all twin that carves well, has solid jump/pipe capability, and remains playful for side hits and rails. For ultra‑high‑speed carving, consider a stiffer directional option. Browse all‑mountain boards.

Q: Are my bindings compatible with the Riders Choice?
A: Most likely. It uses a standard 2x4 insert pattern compatible with most bindings. Burton bindings work with the correct discs. Verify the stance width and reference stance for the size you select. Browse all snowboard bindings.

Q: How does Magne‑Traction help on ice?
A: Magne‑Traction’s wavy edges add multiple contact points for better grip on hardpack and ice. Expect more secure holds in sketchy conditions with less washout, especially at lower edge angles. Read our snowboard tune/wax guide.

Q: Is GNU really made in Washington State?
A: Yes, GNU boards are hand-built in Washington by Mervin. They offer a zero-hazardous-waste guarantee and are made with renewable eco-woods, recycled plastic bottles, and biobased topsheets.
