Stallion 1K

# STX Stallion 1K Head

The STX Stallion 1K Lacrosse Head is at the forefront of the brand's elite midfield lineup. Building on the success of the original Stallion, designed by NCAA champion Kyle Harrison, the 1K boasts several improvements for the modern game. EnduraForm™ material enhances durability and stiffness, while the Speed Scoop™ facilitates easier ground ball pickups from any angle. The head also features a deeper legal offset, which is said to improve ball feel and retention.

The Stallion 1K represents the latest chapter in a long lineage of successful midfield heads from STX. It maintains the core values of versatility and performance that established the Stallion's reputation while incorporating modern materials and design elements to cater to the demands of today's elite midfielders.

 **Perfect head for:** elite midfielders

### Key Features Include

* EnduraForm™ - a proprietary material for improved toughness
* Speed Scoop™ for easier groundballs, regardless of the angle of attack
* Deepest legal offset increases ball feel and retention

### Top Competitor Comparisons: the [String King Mark 2V](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/string-king/mark-2v/l760) and the [ECD Mirage 2.0](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/east-coast-dyes/mirage-2-0/l164123)

The STX Stallion 1K, known for its aggressive pocket and power-focused design, faces competition from the StringKing Mark 2V and ECD Mirage 2.0 in the offensive midfield space. The StringKing Mark 2V boasts a mid-pocket that offers a balance between shooting power and controlled passing, making it a versatile option for offensive plays. Additionally, its stiff construction allows for a strong hold on the ball during powerful shots. The ECD Mirage 2.0, on the other hand, leans towards a more traditional pocket design with a wider face shape and deeper pocket. This prioritizes optimal hold and control over the ball, ideal for players who value precise passing and pocket feel. Compared to these, the STX Stallion 1K stands out with its aggressive mid-high pocket designed for maximizing power in shots. Its wider face shape also facilitates strong cradling, but it might offer less control on finesse plays compared to the Mark 2V or Mirage 2.0.

### Progression:

The STX Stallion Lacrosse Head has seen several iterations over the years, each aiming to improve upon the previous model in terms of performance and features.

* Original STX Stallion: This model was the first model of the STX Stallion. The head was designed in collaboration with lacrosse legend Kyle Harrison, this head offered a traditional pocket depth and a wide face shape.

* [STX Stallion 500](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/stx/stallion-u-500/color-multi/l364715): The 500 model introduced a deeper pocket to improve ball control and cradle security. It also features a slightly narrower face shape for better handling and passing.

* [STX Stallion 700](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/stx/stallion-700/l723): The Stallion 700 built upon its predecessor by incorporating EnduraForm material for enhanced toughness and consistency. It also features an improved scooping pocket for easier ground ball pickups.

* STX Stallion 750: This model introduced C-Channel technology for increased strength and stability. It also offered a wider variety of stringing options for greater pocket customization.

* STX Stallion 800: The Stallion 800 saw the introduction of SpeedScoop technology, designed to make ground ball pickups even easier from various angles. It also featured a deeper legal offset for improved ball feel and retention.

* [STX Stallion 900](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/sticks/heads/stx/stallion-900/l165638): The 900 model continued the trend of improved pocket customization with optimized stringing hole placement. It also maintained the EnduraForm material for durability and the SpeedScoop technology for efficient ground ball scooping.

* [STX Stallion 1K](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/stx/stallion-1k/l316969): The latest iteration, the Stallion 1K, boasts a redesigned SpeedScoop for even better ground ball acquisition. It also features the Innerlock technology for easier stringing on the inside rail, allowing for more personalized pocket configurations.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* This head was meant to be my backup, but now I use it as my starter. I highly recommend it for offensive players, especially attackmen. It's perfect!
* Good control up close or running from X, but compared to Kinetik 3, the ball sails high/wide from >20ft out. Tough for sweeping alley attacks.
* Throws great and I have great control with the ball.

CONS

* It does feel a bit stiffer in the top section...definitely stiffer than the 900
* Compared to other competitor heads, the Stallion 1K offers fewer sidewall stringing holes.
* I understand this is a high-end midfield head, but it’s a bit pricey compared to what else is out there.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The Stallion 1K is the top midfielder head for sure. It's based on the original Stallion design that pro player Kyle Harrison used and designed for that two-way midfielder. The 1K has an improved stiffness, shape retention, and an updated scoop. PLL rookie, Nick Nakeie Montgomery, who ranked 28th in Duke history in career points, also uses this head. I like this head because it can be used both on the offensive side of midfield and the defensive side. It weighs in at about 4.7 oz, making it lighter than the current ECD DNA 2.0, StringKing Mark 2V, and Mark 2T.

Hyper Power

# STX Hyper Power Head

The STX Hyper Power Lacrosse Head marks a significant shift in the brand's offensive offerings. Designed to elevate the elite shooter's game, the Hyper Power features the innovative Power Ramp technology. This ramp creates a steeper angle between the bottom rail and the scoop, promoting a "whipping" motion that increases shot speed and consistency. The EnduraForm™ material enhances durability, while the Innerlock™ guides simplify stringing for a narrow pocket with exceptional hold.

The Hyper Power represents a departure from STX's traditional focus on well-rounded heads suitable for various positions. Instead, it caters to offensive players seeking maximum power and accuracy in their shots. This targeted approach positions STX as a contender in the market for elite offensive heads.

**Perfect head for:** elite offensive shooter

### Key Features Include

* Updated Power Ramp™ (patent pending) improves shot speed and consistency
* Features EnduraForm™ a proprietary material for improved toughness
* Innerlock™ guides simplify inside stringing for a narrower pocket and increased hold

### Top Competitor Comparisons: [ECD Mirage 2.0](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/east-coast-dyes/mirage-2-0/l164123) and the [ECD Rebel Offense](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/east-coast-dyes/rebel/l8819)

In the offensive midfield battleground, the STX Hyper Power stands out for its power-focused design, competing with the ECD Mirage 2.0 and ECD Rebel Offense, each catering to different offensive styles. The Hyper Power reigns supreme in pure power, boasting a stiffest pocket and a wider face shape for generating the most powerful shots and maintaining tight holds during aggressive dodges. However, its focus on power comes at the expense of some versatility in terms of feel and handling. The ECD Mirage 2.0 offers a more balanced approach with its mid-pocket depth and balanced face shape, excelling at both powerful shots and controlled passing while facilitating quick transitions with good ground ball pick-up. The ECD Rebel Offense leans towards a slightly shallower pocket and a pinched face shape, striking a sweet spot between power and handling, making it ideal for players who value strong throws while maintaining good control for dodges and passing.

### Progression:

The STX Hyper Power does not come from any previous STX models. It’s a new addition to the lineup, specifically designed for elite offensive shooters.

While there isn't a direct lineage from previous models, STX utilizes learnings and technologies from their existing lacrosse heads to develop new ones. For instance, Hyper Power's EnduraForm material is an improvement upon materials used in other STX heads, and its stringing features, like Innerlock guides are inspired by their broader lacrosse head technologies.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* This lacrosse head is perfect for step down shooters who like to lean in and shoot hard and accurately. There's nothing else like it on the market.
* I don't remember the last time a head worked this well for me, even strung a few different ways. It is incredibly accurate and is an absolute vacuum for ground balls.
* It improves accuracy and speed—a well-built head with a good-sounding snap release.

CONS

* Feels a bit stiff out of the box.
* You have to spend significant time to break it in.
* The sweet spot feels a bit narrow compared to other heads I’ve used

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The Hyper Power is designed to bring the game of an elite shooter to the next level. It is incredibly accurate and has a new structure that provides a natural whip to the head, unlike many other heads. The bottom of the head rises to the top at a different angle than other heads, which keeps the ball in your pocket longer and takes away the variables of stringing materials. This head is used by players like Marcus Holman and Will Manny. Holman used this head to win the 2021 PLL Accuracy Contest in both 2021 and 2022 All-Star Games.

Eclipse

### Expert Notes

Easily one of the all-time most popular heads, the Eclipse head by STX is used by a majority of goalies at all levels of the game. One of the main reasons why it’s so popular is because it has one of the widest face shapes compared to the other goalie heads on the market. This larger size helps with just about everything a goalie does: clearing, catching, saving, and passing. Even though it's got the widest area, it's still a very accurate head when strung correctly. There’s an abundance of stringing holes for just about any stringing pattern, and creating a pocket with a great channel is super easy.

Hammer

### Product Description

The STX Hammer is widely regarded as one of the best defensive heads available. The head features new technologies like the speed scoop, C-Channel, and the strike plate on the sidewall. The speed scoop combined with the wide top of the head helps create a greater variety of approach angles for ground balls; that, plus it facilitates a smoother release to increase speed and accuracy. The C-Channel technology helps add strength and stability while creating a tighter channel for the ball to be funneled into while also improving stiffness for heavy checks. In addition, the strike plate on either sidewall adds to the impact area when throwing checks while also increasing strength and stiffness. Overall, the head has a very wide design to help defensive players better pick off passes and scoop ground balls in traffic. The STX Hammer is a universally legal head great for LSM’s and close defenders to help improve their power and accuracy while giving hard hits and checks.

### Expert Notes

The Hammer is one of the top defensive heads you can buy. To start, the STX Hammer has a very wide scoop and face shape, which allows players to intercept passes and scoop up ground balls more easily. You don’t have to worry about the Hammer warping or cracking, thanks to its very sturdy sidewall strut design. The Endura Form version of this particular head adds 25 percent extra strength, so it will withstand the gritty nature that comes with playing defense. Overall, if you're looking for a solid head that's not going to let you down when you’re trying to make big plays, definitely consider the STX Hammer.

Designed for dominating faceoffs, the STX Duel 3 competes fiercely against the StringKing Mark 2F and ECD Weapon X, each offering distinct advantages in securing the crucial first move. The Duel 3 prioritizes control and clean pickups, featuring a wider face shape and a softer pocket, allowing for easier ground ball scooping and facilitating smooth transitions to offense. With its angled scoop and stiffer construction, the StringKing Mark 2F takes a more aggressive approach, excelling at clamping onto ground balls and overpowering opponents in contested situations. However, it might require more finesse to control and scoop effectively. The ECD Weapon X falls somewhere in between, boasting a mid-stiff pocket and a balanced face shape, offering a blend of power and control for strong clamps and a good ground ball feel in various face-off scenarios.

* Lots of side holes are available to string low, mid, or high pockets. It’s even good to use for a traditionally strung head.
* This head is sweet, with a flexible head that shoots like a regular one. This is a perfect head for someone who takes some faceoffs but is not a fogo.

CONS

* This head requires a significant break-in period to feel comfortable, can’t use it for the face-off right away.
* Don’t love the pre-strung pocket.
* Some cracking on the sidewalls after extended use.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The STX Duel 3 is designed for the face-off and stay-on midfielder. The STX Hammer 900 steps into the defensive arena alongside the Warrior Evo QX2-D and Maverik Tank 2.0, each prioritizing control and power, but catering to slightly different defensive tactics. The Hammer 900 features a mid-pocket depth and a balanced face shape, offering a sweet spot for both powerful checks and ground ball channeling. The Warrior Evo QX2-D boasts a similar pocket depth but with a wider face, excelling at scooping loose balls and winning ground ball battles in open spaces. Conversely, the Maverik Tank 2.0 leans towards a slightly shallower pocket and a pinched face shape, ideal for precise checks and maintaining tight possession control in close defensive situations.

### Progression:

The STX Hammer 900 doesn't have a clear, direct predecessor in the STX Hammer line. While it carries the "Hammer" name, traditionally associated with STX's defensive heads, the 900 is a new design rather than an iterative update on a previous model.

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* Excellent strength and retention due to its EnduraForm material. Its shape creates a smaller space for the ball to move, making it less likely to fly out during a game.
* Love the quick scoop feature which makes the ball fall right into the pocket with minimal rolling. It is an amazing lacrosse head for elite defensemen.
* Great profile for scooping ground balls, sidewalls allow for a nice mid-high pocket.

CONS

* Feels a bit stiff initially, although it might break in with some use
* Pricey compared to other heads
* Not a ton of reviews or information about this head. Hard to know if it’s held up for other players.

PROS

* This stood up to wicked abuse. Matched with HERO mesh, this setup was very reliable, with repeatable results every day. By far my go-to head for any situation.
* With a 4.4-ounce head you wouldn’t expect much in terms of strength, but this head passed all expectations. It stands its ground for checks and pokes.
* I’ve had 3 of these heads. They are long-lasting, even for heavy-handed guys like me, It’s a great option for the midfield position.

CONS

* Although the Surgeon 900 aims for a mid pocket, I found the stock pocket to be shallower than expected.
* Expensive compared to other similar heads out there
* Some warping after extended use

The Maverik Tactik prioritizes offensive prowess with its deeper pocket and wider face shape, facilitating powerful shots and holds for dodging and attacking. Conversely, the Nike L3 leans towards a more defensive approach with its narrower face and shallower pocket, enabling better ground ball control and tighter checks.

* [STX Stallion 500](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/sticks/heads/stx/stallion-u-500/l11786): The 500 model introduced a deeper pocket to improve ball control and cradle security.

Stallion U 550

### Product Description

The STX Stallion U 550 features an enhanced and updated throat design to provide more strength and durability than the original version. Built with several key upgrades, this head is favored by many due to its lightweight nature, durability, strength, and stringability. The Stallion U 550 is 5% lighter than the original NFHS model, but offers the same level of performance. C-Channel Technology helps to increase the strength of the head by distributing stress evenly along the bottom rail during face-offs, when scooping up ground balls, and during hard checks. Designed for the offensive and defensive midfielder and featuring a mid to high-pocket, the Stallion U 550 is both NFHS and NCAA legal.

### Expert Notes

The STX Stallion U 550 is perfectly designed for two-way midfielders who love to run and gun. Players love the bottom rail design that helps generate extra power in high pockets to increase shot speed. This head also has exceptional ground ball capabilities. The head has a flat scoop with an updated throat designed to quickly transition the ball from the turf to the center of the pocket. This allows midfielders to spark quick transition offense after locking down elite scores while on defense. Players also love the open sidewall that allows for flexibility on checks and ground balls, while also making the head lighter to increase shot speed and accuracy. This head is universally legal and ideal for offensive and defensive midfielders looking to make a huge impact on their team.

Shield

### Product Description

The STX Shield is one of the highest regarded goalie heads on the market because of the stiff design and lightweight feel. The head uses C-Channel technology to help improve strength in the areas that experience the most impact; this also increases stiffness and stability to enable consistent outlet passes. The head also has a ergonomic throat that helps improve wrist mobility for goalies that play with their upper palm right at the bottom of the head. The top rail also helps create a consistent and tight channel to increase accuracy on clears and ground balls.

### Expert Notes

It’s true that there are many fewer options available to goalies compared to field players when it comes to lacrosse heads. STX aims to cater to goalies by being one of the leading manufacturers of goalie-specific heads. The Shield is a big advancement over the original Eclipse, and there are many features that set it apart. To start, the new throat design was developed into a newer shape that allows goalies to slide their top hand up higher on their shaft. This, ultimately, helps lead to fewer rebounds. Another improvement? The rigidity of the head. Stiffness is key for blocking as many shots as possible, and from all different angles. The STX shield is one of the stiffest goalie heads on the market.
