# Maverik Havok 2 Head

The Maverik Havok 2.0 Lacrosse Head continues the legacy of its predecessor as a top choice for elite defensemen and LSMs (Long Stick Midfielders). It features a tighter face shape for enhanced control and increased stiffness through a redesigned 4-strut design, aiming to deliver powerful checks and disrupt offensive plays. The scoop is specifically engineered to excel at ground ball pickups, making it easier to gain possession and transition the ball upfield.

Maverik has a history of prioritizing innovation and performance in their lacrosse equipment, and the Havok 2.0 embodies this focus. It represents a refinement of a successful design, incorporating player feedback and advancements in materials to solidify Maverik's position as a leader in defensive lacrosse equipment.

**Perfect head for:** elite defensemen and LSM

### Key Features Include

* Perfectly engineered scoop angle explicitly designed to pick up groundballs
* XRAIL Technology is engineered to distribute stress to the opposite rail creating a lightweight and stiff design.
* DURATOUGH Materials increase stiffness and provide consistency in all weather conditions.
* CONTROL CORE is designed with redistributed mass in the scoop and throat to decrease weight, increase stiffness, and enhance ball control.

### Top Competitor Comparisons: the [Warrior Evo QX2-D](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/warrior/evo-qx2-d/l350399) and the [Maverik Tank 2.0](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/maverik/tank-2-0/l164354)

The Maverik Tactic 2.0 carves its niche with a well-rounded design for diverse midfielders. It faces competition from the Warrior Evo QX2-D and fellow Maverik offering, the Tank 2.0. The Evo QX2-D prioritizes defensive midfielders with its stiff construction, close fit, and narrow face shape, ideal for disrupting opposing offenses. The Tank 2.0, on the other hand, leans towards offensive midfielders with its wider face shape and deeper pocket, facilitating powerful shots and passes. Compared to these, the Tactic 2.0 strikes a balance, offering a mid-pocket suitable for both controlled passing and decent shooting power. Its scoop design sits in the middle ground, making it adequate for ground ball pickups without excelling in either offense or defense.

* New strut orientation: improved balance and feel
* Tighter pocket: enhanced control and feel for passion and shooting

### What people are saying (edited for brevity and clarity)

PROS

* I used the Havok for four years, then upgraded to the Havok 2.0. It's lighter, sturdier, and has a better face shape. The scoop is good and has 20 sidewall holes instead of 17. I would recommend it to anyone.
* Switched from the OG Havok to Havok 2.0. Improved stringing options and efficiency at picking up ground balls. Durable enough for checks.
* My sons love the Havok 2.0 head. I like the blue color so I can spot him from the stands!

CONS

* The Havok 2.0 has a decent amount of stringing holes, but not as many as some other options, which might limit pocket customization for some players
* The head was slightly heavier than expected, impacting my agility and maneuverability during checks.
* Mine cracked after only a few months. Although I am pretty hard on my heads.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

Building off of the first Havok, this head is for the playmaking LSM and defensemen. Maverik made two changes with this head, the first being a tighter face for more ball control for defensive players who like to carry the ball. The second change is increased stiffness to the head to avoid warping when throwing a variety of checks.

While the Maverik Tactic 3.0 reigns supreme for versatile midfielders with its stiff construction, well-balanced pocket, and diverse stringing options, competitors offer unique strengths. It has a shorter throat on the head, which reduces the distance between the player's top hand and the ball so you have more control. CONS

* The head needs a significant break-in period to feel comfortable.
* The face shape doesn't create an ideal channel for a tight hold on the ball, impacting my ground ball control and takeaways.
* It can be difficult to string as the head is so wide.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

This is my favorite defensive head by far. It has a wider face than the first generation to make knocking passes down and transition that much easier. The head is incredibly stiff and holds its shape a lot longer and better than other defensive heads. I used this head through all 5 years of college, and the 2.0 is on both sticks I use right now for my men’s league. It's really durable, and you can throw up a lot of hard checks. It will for sure cause some pain when you use it.

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

This head is amazing. It's designed for the elite offensive shooter. The first generation was a top-selling head for 4 years, and the 2.0 brings a lot of updates. It’s very narrow so the head has a ton of ball control, and it has a refined scoop to make picking up balls a lot easier. I like how it strings, it has a ton of sidewall holes so you can make your pocket how you like it. It does just about everything, it shoots well, and the passing is good. It's my favorite offensive head I've ever tried.

PROS

* This head has great balance and weight, as well as versatile pocket placement options. It feels lighter when throwing and shooting than it did when I strung it.
* I paired this head with a carbon pro 2.0, and it’s perfect. I had it dyed and strung. It’s lasted a year now.
* Great head for the 2-way midfielder. I’m able to control ground balls, and it has perfect feeds and sniping corners.

CONS

* The Tactik 2.0 felt a little boxy and stiff compared to other heads I've used
* The stock pocket is shallower than expected. This messes with my ground ball control and requires additional customization.
* Some minor cracking on the sidewalls after extended use

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The Tactic 2.0 is an offensive head made for the overall midfielder whether it is for the outside shooter or the precision passer. Offensive midfielders really like the 2.0 because you can shoot well with it, you can pass well with it, and it has a lot of control. Compared to the first model, it has a new scoop to make it lighter and more durable. It has a ton of sidewall options for stringing different patterns. Ned Crotty from the PLL Chrome uses this head as a two-way midfielder.

### Top Competitor Comparisons: the [StringKing Mark 2A](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/string-king/mark-2a/l758) and the [Warrior Burn XP-O](https://sidelineswap.com/shop/lacrosse/heads/warrior/burn-xp-o/l174311)

Catering to power-seeking offensive players, the Maverik Optik 2.0 competes with the StringKing Mark 2A and Warrior Burn XP-O, each offering distinct advantages in achieving offensive dominance. The Optik 2.0 boasts a deep pocket and a wide face shape, ideal for cradling the ball tightly during aggressive drives and ripping powerful shots. The StringKing Mark 2A takes a similar approach with a deep pocket and a stiff construction, prioritizing power and hold for forceful shots and plays around the crease. However, the Mark 2A's offset design caters specifically to lefty players. Conversely, the Warrior Burn XP-O leans towards a slightly shallower pocket with a focus on versatility. While still packing enough punch for powerful shots, the Burn XP-O's design allows for more flexibility and finesse in tight offensive maneuvers.

* Super light with a shape that is made for the crease. Does a good job catching in traffic and gets a nice pop on shots.
* Beginners looking for an affordable but durable and effective lacrosse head should consider the 2.0

CONS

* The head could benefit from more sidewall holes, particularly for creating mid/high and high pockets.
* The pocket depth is too low
* My head has some cracking and warping issues after a year of use

### Expert Review (by [Allen Melick](https://sidelineswap.com/locker/EmpireSports))

The second head in the Optik line, the 2.0 has a brand new tighter face shape. This shape helps with ball protection and accuracy when passing and shooting. It has tension lock technology to allow players to string their sticks with a highly defined channel. With changes to the material and structure, this head is durable and stiff and will hold its shape in extreme weather conditions.
