 Titleist 716 AP1 Irons are game-improvement irons with a high launch trajectory, increased distance, maximum forgiveness, and playability. Tungsten weighting helps lower the center of gravity (CG) which produces a higher launch and increased moment of inertia (MOI) for added forgiveness. The 360 degree Undercut Cavity design is a thin, unsupported face that allows the face to flex more at impact resulting in increased ball speeds and added distance. Titleist 716 AP1 irons feature a pre-worn leading-edge design that creates better turf interaction. The Titleist 716 AP1 irons come standard with the MRC Kura Kage Graphite or True Temper 95 Steel stock shafts.

These best-selling, most forgiving irons were designed to give players greater distance on their shots. Titleist AP1 irons are best suited for mid to high handicappers. There’s very solid forgiveness in these irons. They have a substantial offset, thick sole, and thick top line. The use of stainless steel inserts create faster ball speeds from all impact locations. The shorter and mid irons feature a cavity construction, and the longer irons have a hollow body construction. You will like the thin clubface with tungsten positioned in the toe in the longer clubs for higher launch flights. Ball speeds will be pretty high with these irons. They have excellent feel and workability.  You will find the sound to be a bit “clicky.” Overall, the heads on AP1 irons are slightly larger than AP2 heads, and the top edge is slightly broader.

The Titleist AP2 714 irons are multi-material forged irons, each of which is designed with various sized cavities depending on the loft. At impact, you will get a lot of positive feedback. Center hits will be smooth, with no vibration. Every club in this set is super forgiving. The 714’s are one of the highest MOI irons on the market and even low single-figure players can game these. You will see a higher launch in the longer irons and workability for the shorter irons. These clubs look right, feel right and get the job done.

Another mention from Golf Digest’s Gold List, the 718 Titleist irons are the newest and latest version of the AP2’s and are dubbed “player’s irons.” They are very sharp-looking and modern. You will find the MOI is higher, and they feature a pre-worn leading edge throughout the entire set which helps with turf interaction. The irons still have a small, compact head. These irons are used by many tour players and single digit handicappers, because they’re not as forgiving as the AP1, which has a bigger head.
