Callaway Razr X Black Golf Drivers

This driver is a powerhouse for golfers seeking long, accurate drives. It features forged composite materials in the crown, lighter and stronger for optimized performance. A streamlined design reduces drag for faster clubhead speeds, and distance-enhancing technology promotes a lower centre of gravity for more efficient energy transfer and longer drives. Whether you're a low handicapper seeking maximum distance or a mid-handicapper looking for more power off the tee, the RAZR X Black Driver can help you reach new distances on the course.

Perfect driver for:
Golfers who value a good balance of distance, forgiveness, and some adjustability.

Key features include:

Forged CompositeThis revolutionary material is lighter and stronger than titanium.
Speed Frame Face TechnologyA combination of VFT and Hyperbolic Face Technology creates a larger sweet spot and increases ball speeds across the titanium face.
Distance Trajectory WeightingOptimizes the centre of gravity, promoting the ideal conditions for maximum distance with a high launch, low spinning ball flight.
Aerodynamic ContoursReduces energy loss from drag during the downswing by 17% compared to previous models.
Black Pvd FinishPhysical Vapor Deposition Finish comes from a high-tech process that produces a distinctive look.

Top Competitors

Released around the same time, the Titleist 913D2 offers a large clubface for a bigger sweet spot and features a SureFit hosel that allows golfers to adjust loft and lie angle independently. This adjustability is appealing to golfers who want to fine-tune their launch conditions and ball flight for more precise performance. The TaylorMade R1 Black Driver offers another compelling alternative, prioritizing adjustability and distance potential for golfers with a more aggressive swing. It features a large titanium clubface designed for high ball speeds and a moveable weight track. This weight track allows golfers to adjust launch angle (higher or lower) and potentially influence shot shape.

Progression of the Razr V Black driver

The RAZR X Black Driver (2012) builds upon the foundation laid by the RAZR Hawk and Diablo Octane drivers (2011). The Hawk and Diablo Octane completely change the game with the introduction of their forged composite construction. Callaway took what they learned from the RAZR Hawk and Diablo Octane drivers and improved the design.

Here are the biggest upgrades to the RAZR X Black Driver:

  • A combination of VFT and Hyperbolic Face technology creates a larger sweet spot and high ball speed across the face.
  • Aerodynamic contours reduce energy loss from drag during the downswing by 23% compared to the Diablo Octane.
  • Black PVD finish is created through a high-tech process that creates a distinctive stealth look.
👍 Pros
Fantastic feel, very light. I get good distance with it. Very very easy to hit.
Very forgiving driver, I have found the fairway more. My wife is impressed with my distance.
Love the weight of it, and the distance I can get and easy to draw the ball.
👎 Cons
Getting some serious slices with this driver.
I hated it on the course....poor distance, feel, and direction.
A screw got loose in the driver and it makes an awful rattle noise.
The Callaway Razr X Black Driver is a pure nostalgia for me. The smallish 400cc clubhead might feel a bit unforgiving compared to the massive drivers golfers are used to today. It has a Speed Frame Face Technology which is designed to have a larger sweetspot and help off center drives go a long way and still be very forgiving. Unless you're a die-hard Callaway Razr X Black fan or you find an absolutely unbeatable deal, I'd recommend going with a newer driver for better performance.
