point—proven by their Premium glove series. The most recent Premium model was
released in 2021, and features the same durable leather that's easy to close (and that youth players 
love), Yet, the newest release did switch up
the glove’s palm and web color, moving away from black and in favor of dark brown
– which I feel compliments this glove’s old fashioned feel. What hasn’t changed about
the Premium series is that the gloves endure for seasons on end, and often remain
good enough for a youth player to use until it’s time to get an adult glove. Over anything
else, kids want a glove they can trust. And Rawlings Premium gloves are as trustworthy
as they come.

-   The Rawlings Icon is a beast on the field. Hits are powerful and consistent.
    
-   The sweet spot on this thing is like a magnet for the ball. It's tough as nails and can take a beating, which is exactly what you need in the game.

**CONS**

-   The stock grip is just kinda okay – not as sticky or comfy as I expected. It's no deal-breaker, though. Folks generally like to tweak their grips to suit their style.
    
-   I'm not a big fan of the tapered knob on the ICON because I like to feel the handle more at the bottom (purely preference), but the handle feels fantastic.
    
-   The barrel cracked at the base of the handle. Travel ball practice starts this week and his brand new Icon is useless.

The most recent 2023 Rawlings 5150 furthered the end loaded, heavier feel and extra stiffness that we loved its predecessors for, while adding a brand new bat grip that hitters I’ve spoken to say provides unmatched comfort at the plate. Although some of these hitters also miss the neon green 5150 releases from 2016 and 2017, the model’s evolution can be clearly traced through this bat’s commitment to one piece, alloy bats that care about performance over cosmetics. The Rawlings 5150 is a blue-collar, power hitter’s bat that I’d recommend for anyone who’s looking to pad their home run stats.

Besides looks, I’ve noticed that not much has changed between the earliest Prodigy bat and the most recent release—but that’s because youth hitters clearly have no complaints about this model.
