Baseball leg guards must fit securely to protect against injuries. When measuring for leg pads, no matter what size you wear, it is important to ensure they are not too small. Measure your leg from the middle of your knee cap (patella) to the base of your ankle bone (tibia). Leg guards come in sizes ranging from 12 inches to 16 inches, though some manufacturers offer custom options outside the standard range.

In general, there are no major functional differences between baseball leg guards and softball leg guards; however, there are some slight differences. Many softball leg guards are lighter and often have slightly smaller, more narrow toe guards. Additionally, some softball leg guards may have only a double knee cup as opposed to a triple knee cup you would typically find inside most baseball leg guards
