Rawlings Pro Preferred models have been my standard for top-notch baseball gloves ever since I knew what baseball was. And the newest 2023 Pro Preferred releases utilize the same world-class kip leather and sheepskin palm lining that initially convinced me that Pro Preferred’s are the world’s most comfortable glove. Not to mention that Rawlings offers player-specific models for guys like Mike Trout, Ronald Acuña, Kris Bryant and Gerrit Cole—ever heard of them? Ever since the series’ beginning, Rawlings Pro Preferred gloves have been, well, preferred by the pros. And those MLB stars surely know a thing or two about what a great baseball glove should consist of. I trust their judgment. You should, too.

Heart of the Hide

An iconic brand’s most iconic glove. Rawlings Heart of the Hide gloves are famous for the top-grade, USA steerhide leather they’re crafted from, which makes for a firm and sturdy glove that so many players love. Over time, Heart of the Hide gloves have been remodeled to make them easier to break in and cater more towards players’ specific tastes. The newest Heart of the Hide release is Rawlings’ ‘Gameday 57’ series, which celebrates the MLB’s annual “Gold Glove Award” (introduced in 1957), by individually numbering each model—making every glove a one-of-one collector’s item and on-field gem. When we recall what made us fall in love with baseball, HoH comes to mind.

Wilson’s A2000 glove series has been a baseball staple since it was first released in 1957, and used by Ted Williams and Ernie Banks. We players have always known A2000’s for their Pro Stock leather’s durability, which continues to evolve and improve over time. In recent years, Wilson has started to combine the A2000’s legendary Pro Stock leather with a new SuperSkin material, which makes gloves more lightweight, moisture-resistant and twice as durable. And Wilson’s most recent A2000 release, the 2024 Love the Moment 1786 model, was designed to share a message of understanding and acceptance for people with autism. Even though my playing days are done, that alone makes me want to buy this glove. Regardless of which position you play, there’s a perfect Wilson A2000 glove available for you.

To me, Wilson A2K baseball gloves have always represented tradition, luxury, and world-class performance. The most recent 2023 A2K models are offering a brand new SuperSkin material along with Wilson’s patented Spin Control technology, which is a dimple pattern in the glove’s leather sections that I think looks really neat, which also reduces the ball’s spin rate upon contact. Though I know many fielders who favor the classic, Pro Stock leather gloves that made A2K’s highly sought after from 2015-2020. Ever since their initial release in 2007, A2K gloves have been handcrafted by the world’s best glovemakers, who cater to the desires of professional baseball players that I’d imagine know a thing or two about gloves. If you’re looking for a glove your peers will adore for its look and on-field performance, look no further than a Wilson A2K glove.

The Pro Flare is an average glove when it comes to its leather construction and durability level. It is considered a “hold me over” glove, meaning that it is good for one to two years of consistent use before it becomes too worn down and the leather becomes wrinkly. Although Louisville Slugger is a highly respected company, they’re not know for their glove making. As a result, this glove is recommended for players who are looking to buy a backup glove, so it should be considered for high school players who are playing enough baseball that they could use a second glove in their arsenal.
