History of Baseball Hats
A baseball hat is a soft cap which features a rounded crown and a stiff peak. This projects from the front to protect against the sun. Vintage baseball hats, pioneered by the Brooklyn Excelsiors, had a rounded top, a longer visor and a button on top. These were standard until the modern baseball cap came on the scene during the 1940s. There are three different types of baseball caps: the snapback, the fitted baseball hat, and the adjustable cap. As the name would suggest, the fitted cap is tailored to the wearer, while the measurements of the adjustable cap can be changed to suit whoever is wearing it. The snapback has a distinctive shape of its own, with a flat brim and usually a mesh back. Since the 1980s, baseball hats have become a fashion staple for most athletes and fans.
Baseball Hat Sizing Guide
If you’re going for a fitted baseball hat, take a tape measure around the crown of your head to get the circumference. Remember that different manufacturers, such as New Era or Under Armour, size their hats differently, so double check each manufacturer’s specific sizing chart. Generally, 22 inches will fit a medium hat, while any head size above 23 inches is considered large.
