The Callaway Apex Pro Irons feature a progressive set design, with the longer irons (3-5) having more offset and tungsten inserts for higher launch and added forgiveness. The Pro line utilizes the same responsive feel of Callaway’s previous iron series but uses a more compact head and thinner sole to launch higher and fly farther.

### Expert Notes

These are premium player irons, best suited for more advanced golfers. The Apex Pro Irons use a 360 Face Cup. Essentially, this makes the irons faster. This also helps with off-center hits. Inside each head is around 50g of tungsten. In the longer irons, the CG is positioned lower towards the toe to help with ball speed on off-center hits. In the shorter irons, it is slightly higher to increase ball flight. Compared to the Apex CF 19 irons, the Pro’s have less offset and a thinner top line. Overall, these are quality irons for lower handicappers.

TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons are the first of TaylorMade’s iron sets to utilize Speed Pocket Technology. The Speed Pocket flexes at impact in order to increase ball speed and create a higher launch trajectory with a steep and quick-stopping descent. The Speed Pockets are featured in the 3-7 irons and then the rest are traditional cavity back designs. The Ultra-Thin Face combines with the Speed Pocket and Inverted Cone Technology to increase forgiveness across the face and to enable maximum playability and distance. Despite the name, TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons are not blades, but are mid-sized heads with an average topline and offset. ### Expert Notes

These midsize irons have a generous head size, but not too thick of a top line. Players of all levels can hit these, and will enjoy doing so. Mis-hits seem to come off the face almost as well as a solid shot without losing much distance or accuracy. Speed pockets are featured in the 3-7 iron to really give you that extra boost of distance. Consistency is fairly solid with these too, and the sound is not too loud off the face. Lastly, these clubs are very light, making them easy to swing.

These irons should be at the top of your list.  Nike VR Pro irons are classic, traditional clubs that you will want to hit with all day long. They deliver performance, accuracy and precision behind each shot. It should be noted that the longer irons have a smaller sweet spot. VR Pro irons are definitely best suited for more advanced golfers who can control the ball more readily than beginners can. When you hit these right solid in the middle, the feel and sound are pure and crisp. The grooves on these irons are closer together, which gives you more control over your distance. You’ll feel like a pro with these sticks!

With a lower CG and higher MOI, the face cup is able to generate more ball speed for higher distance. XR irons are an excellent option for all levels of golfers seeking an easier launch off the tee, greater forgiveness, and added distance behind their shot.

### Expert Notes

Callaway XR irons have a “cup 360” around the head, which is a thin metal that produces flex upon impact. The more flex a club has, the more ball speed you’ll get. Callaway also used the internal standing wave design from their fairway woods in these irons, which effectively lowers the CG. You will experience a medium amount of offset upon address, and the top line looks very similar to the X2 Hot irons. Lastly, it should be noted that these are cavity back irons; if that’s your preference, the Callaway XR’s are a great option.
