Ping G400 Golf Fairway Woods

The Ping G400 Fairway Wood is a high-launching fairway that features a maraging steel face with more flexion for added speed and distance. The C300 maraging steel is one of the strongest alloys in the world and delivers more flexing power for faster ball speeds and higher launch. The ultra-thin crown is equipped with Turbulators help to reduce aerodynamic drag. The weight saved in the crown is repositioned lower for increased moment of inertia and optimal center of gravity placement. The G400 Fairway has a lower leading edge that sits closer to the ground to enhance turf interaction and increase confidence from any lie.

Perfect fairway woods for:
Golfers who want a fairway wood that sits really low to the ground in the address position helping get the club underneath the ball.

Key features include:

Thinnest CrownThe G400’s crown is made ultra-thin to save weight and position the CG lower for an increased total MOI and higher ball speed.
Machined Back WeightCreates denser back weight for increased total MOI to help increase forgiveness and stability.
Maraging Steel FaceUtilizes thin, strong and flexible steel to create a face optimized for faster ball speeds and higher, longer, straighter shots.
Reduced SpinThe face texture is designed to reduce spin on shots.
Alta CB Premium ShaftDesigned with counter-balance to increase head mass for optimized energy transfer.

Top Competitors

While all three prioritize distance and launch, the SIM2 Max boasts its C300 Steel face, known for generating explosive ball speeds on even off-center hits, ideal for golfers seeking forgiveness. On the other hand, the TSR2 counters with its Titleist Speed Chassis, a lightweight design that maximizes clubhead speed for longer strikes, appealing to those who prioritize pure distance. Ultimately, choosing between these contenders depends on your swing and what you value most: forgiveness with the SIM2 Max's C300 Steel face, or the extra distance potential of the TSR2's Speed Chassis.

Progression of the G400 fairway woods:

The Ping G400 fairway wood is an upgrade over the previous Ping G fairway wood model. The biggest change is a new maraging steel face which is one of the strongest alloys in the world and “regularly used in the landing gear of aircrafts”.

Here's a breakdown of the improvements:

  • New maraging steel face is 20% stronger and 20% more flexible, delivering an extra 2mph of ball speed over the previous G model.
  • 30% of the heads mass is located in the heads backweight (in the sole) which improves MOI and forgiveness by 25% – 44% over the competition.
👍 Pros
I can get creative and hit all kinds of shots with this club. Low, high, draw, fade. It’s so easy to shape shots.
Long, forgiving, and feels like a solid club. Very pleased.
The best driver/fairway combo in one club. It hits very straight and accurately due to the head size and shape.
👎 Cons
If you draw or fade the ball, the sole is very unforgiving.
The 3 metal feels harsh and sounds like an aluminum bat, very irritating.
I surprisingly can’t hit the 3 wood as well as I was expecting. The shots are spinny and lack loft.

Because the Ping G400 is a bit older (released in 2017), you can find them at an affordable price. The Pings are infamous for covering all the bases. This club is for shot-shapers, those who can control how they want to hit the ball. If you're going around a corner, this is the club for you. In my opinion, it's one of the best shot-shaping woods out there.
