Top Competitors

Targeting golfers seeking distance and forgiveness like the TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2, two main competitors emerged around the same time. The Callaway XR Steel (2013) uses a large clubface and Callaway's cup technologies to maximize ball speed across the face for long distance, even on off-center hits. Titleist entered the ring a few years later with the 917F2. While it uses a different approach, it achieves similar results through a large, thin face for speed and forgiveness, along with adjustable center of gravity technology for personalized launch and spin.

Progression of the RBZ Stage 2 fairway wood:

The TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2 fairway wood was the successor to the original TaylorMade RBZ fairway wood. Here's how it built upon the original RBZ:

Upgrades in RBZ Stage 2:

  • Slightly smaller head size: While the RBZ was known for its large, forgiving clubface, the Stage 2 offered a slightly smaller head that might be more appealing to a wider range of golfers, especially those with slower swing speeds who might find the RBZ bulky.
  • Refined Speed Pocket technology: The Stage 2 took the RBZ's ball speed technology and optimized it for potentially even more distance.
  • Potential for broader appeal: The combination of the slightly smaller head size and the refined speed pocket technology made the Stage 2 fairway wood a more versatile option for golfers with a wider range of swing speeds and preferences, while still prioritizing distance and forgiveness.
👍 Pros
I hit it a little straighter and further that my previous clubs, also the distance on mishits was awesome. This club is a game changer.
This is the 3 wood I was looking for. When I first tried it out, it was love at first sight.
The way this club feels in the hands, during the swing, and at impact, is incredible.
👎 Cons
The shaft is too flexible for me which makes it hard to use given my swing speed.
The club head is set up to be closed at address.
The crown graphics and the white head are an ugly look.

The RBZ Stage 2 has a shallower face and lower head profile than its predecessor, which offers increased playability and easier launch. If you're a more advanced golfer, the Stage 2 will be excellent off the fairway, rough, or off the tee. It's a super versatile club that can often replace a driver altogether. One thing to note is that this club is set up closed at address, which means the line of the face of the club is pointing toward the left of the target line (which might be better for right-handed golfers).
