They took the same design from the CAT8 and strengthened the CAT9 with a stronger alloy to avoid any denting issues. It's a very good, durable bat. The CAT9 will be a bit heavier than the CAT8; it's a better bat for stronger kids. The first generation of the CAT9 came out with a gray, black, and red paint job. The second generation they called the Past Time, which was red, white, and blue. It's the same bat, but a different paint job. The second bat was more popular simply because of how it looked. Everyone likes the American Flag with its Stars and Stripes.

**PROS**



* A kid in a slump hit his first-ever home run with this bat. It arrived just in time for a playoff game and worked great for my average-sized 11-year-old son - not too heavy.
* After breaking in this bat properly, it really performs well! My son uses it for our USSSA 8U Travel team and you can easily tell when it's hit on the sweet spot. The bat is also forgiving on mis-hits, often resulting in faster grounders than usual (for this age group) and very high pop.
* This bat has more pop than most USA bats, similar to BBCOR/USSA. We broke it in with tee hits, and my son hit missiles and balls over the fence on the first day. Expensive, but worth it for avid players.

**CONS**



* Great indoor results with the new non-Easton bat during coach pitch pre-season. Disappointing mid-season pop-up infield hits. I've always used Easton before, won't try other brands again.
* Great pop, but poor performance when missing sweet spot. Treated with care, but still cracked in Apr. Son upset I didn't allow use in cold weather, with heavy balls or pitching machines. It was mostly used as game bat last year, did not last into 2nd season.
* My son's bat barrel cracked after hitting his first HR, leaving him without a bat during All Stars and elimination series.

The DeMarini CF is a classic model that goes back to 2015 and offers one of the hottest models (2017) but is limited in use as its performance surpasses bat standards. Overall, the CF reflects a classic design which has been the same since 2015. But they also tended to break, so DeMarini made them stronger, made them stiffer, made them more durable. And when they did that, the bats didn't hit as well. The early models were better performers than the later models.

* The 3D-lasted flex composite boot provides a good amount of stiffness while still maintaining some flexibility for maneuverability. The skate feels very responsive.
* The fit on the Supreme 3S is a major improvement over my previous skates. The Performance Fit System with the hydrophobic microfiber liner feels super comfortable. The break-in period was reasonable, and there weren't any major pressure points.
* I had no issues with them. There was no lace bite like in my Vapors, and there was no rubbing in the toe cap. They literally feel like slippers on my feet.

CONS:



* This skate is not meant for a wide foot! After 45 minutes, I wanted to get off the ice; it took me up to 2 hours to walk normally. They put so much pressure on the outside of my feet. Super uncomfortable. 
* The Supreme 3S offers some heat-molding capabilities, but only on certain areas of the liner.
* My son is having a hard time with these skates. They are not comfortable even after 2 sessions of molding and spending an extra $40 on special inserts.

The Rawlings 5150 series is the ultimate workman’s bat. The most recent 2023 Rawlings 5150 furthered the end loaded, heavier feel and extra stiffness that we loved its predecessors for, while adding a brand new bat grip that hitters I’ve spoken to say provides unmatched comfort at the plate. The longest lasting metal bat series on the market is still at its peak. Rawlings legendary Velo series returned in 2022, with a Velo ACP release that I’ve heard hitters say offers unparalleled balance at the plate. Over time, the Rawlings Velo series has evolved by incorporating the ACP (Accelerated Carbon Performance) line that adds extra carbon in the barrel, which we’ve heard does a lot to increase pop. While Velo’s aren’t the best looking bats you’re going to find, they make up for the plainness with top-notch performance. Rawlings’ resilient Velo series should continue to be a favorite for hard-nosed hitters who prefer production over flash.

The Easton Mako Beast is proof that some bats surpass their expected expiration date.
Released in 2017, this Easton model offers a deadly combo of a light swing and a big
barrel to create a terrifying bat for we pitchers. The two-piece, composite Mako Beast
evolved from Easton’s legendary Mako bat series (my favorite metal bat of all time), but was updated to include a longer barrel than the original Mako. Aside from that, not
much else has changed between older Mako models and the 2018 Mako Beast (not
including this bat’s sweet black matte colorway with grey accents). Although Easton has
released a number of excellent metal bats over the years, many hitters 
consider the 2017 Beast Mako to be one of their all-time best. And if you use this bat, you
might reach your peak, as well.
