Vaughn VE8 Pro Carbon Chest Protector or CA Color: Black / Silver Love this CA. It has a lot of pros: Lightweight (less than 6 lbs), Super Mobile (You can put your arms above your head and not cut your head off with the floaters), Does not play hot so if your currently bake in your CA this is something to look at! BUT, there are cons. The protection isn't where it should be in general depending on what level of shots you are facing. If you are playing lower level beer league then you'll love this CA for the reasons above and you'll be protected. If you are playing against higher level high school, college or men's leagues this is not a CA you should be considering unless you don't mind wearing one of Vaughn's padded under shirts. With the padded shirt, protection will not be an issue and I think for a lot of us out there that love their Vaughn CA this is frustrating. I don't want to wear the padded shirt and really this CA doesn't need that much more padding to be effective against heavier shots. For instance I put two belly blocks in both biceps (see picture of me pointing at those blocks). If I didn't tell you and you wore this CA you wouldn't even know they were there but just that little added protection eliminated all bruises I was getting with shots to the upper arm. I added one more block under the left arm pit as well and again when playing you wouldn't even know it was there and it added virtually no weight. If Vaughn doubled the thickness of the bicep, added a smaller shoulder cap under the one it already has and thickened up the pad under the floaters just a little you would literally have the perfect CA. It's a shame they won't throw an extra 10 dollars in materials at this unit to make it perfect. Sizing: I like my CA's a little more snug and not dripping off me so this unit is a touch small for me which I like. I am 5' 11". The sweet spot for this unit is 5' 9" - 5' 10" in my opinion. I am sure it will probably work for 5' 8". Do not purchase if you are 5' 7" or shorter or 6' or taller. Misc: Lots of velcro options at the shoulder to make adjustments. Simple strap system, super simple to get on/off. Honestly, my favorite CA but the guys I play against have no issues taking clappers 15 feet away from me and I do not want to wear the padded undershirt. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking! I try to ship as quickly as possible.
