How to Wear a Hockey Goalie Chest Protector

While putting on all of your goalie gear may seem like a daunting task at first, the process is actually quite simple. Looking for the most efficient method? Here’s how our pros recommend suiting up for the net.

Getting Dressed

Before you can put on your chest and arm padding, you’ll need to make sure everything on your lower body is in place. That means your base layers, cup, skates, and leg pads are all good to go.

Once your lower body’s taken care of, it’s time to throw on your chest and arm padding. Use your pad’s adjusters and straps to ensure that both your chest and arm padding is secure and in place. Your arm padding should cover your arms from shoulder to wrist, stopping right before the openings from your glove. Your chest should be fully covered, as well as your shoulders, abdomen and kidneys. If you’re into suspenders, make sure to strap them on before putting on your shoulder pads so that they don’t slide around during a skate.

Now, for the easy part. Toss on your favorite jersey, grab your helmet, glove, blocker, and stick, and head out to the ice!
