The Taping Process

Not sure why people are taping up their shin guards before heading out onto the ice? While every pair of shin guards should come with straps, some players prefer a tighter fit, and tape helps keep your socks in place. Using shin guard tape, like this, is often a popular way to ensure that you get that snug padding fit on your legs.

When taping shin guards to get that extra snug fit, try two wraps of tape around the sock right under your knee. Looking for even more support down low? Some players like another layer of tape at the bottom of their leg pad. Keep in mind that your shin guards should feel comfy and snug, not overly tight or squeezed.

Other Tips

Using tape is also a great way to really mold your leg’s contours onto the interior padding of your shin guards.
