The first thing you have to take into account when deciding how often to sharpen your skates is your level of play. If you’re just starting out, skate sharpness shouldn’t be a major priority of yours. If you’re looking to play at mid-to-upper levels, however, sharpening your skates is something you should start doing either on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis -- we’ll cover which cadence makes the most sense for you below.
If you’re practically a toothpick out on the ice, having sharp skates will greatly benefit your ability to dig into the ice and stay upright when moving around. If you’re the heaviest bruiser on the ice, then you can probably get away with getting your skates sharpened less frequently.
