While you might think suspenders are old school, they’re actually quite practical -- some might even say cool -- for hockey players to wear. Whether your pants are practically falling down out on the ice or you’re just trying to get some extra support without the need for a tight belt, suspenders are a great option to consider.
Do Hockey Pants Need Suspenders?
The short answer is, no, you don’t need suspenders. Hockey pants generally do not need suspenders if they are fitted properly; however, lots of players today still use them for extra support and comfort on the ice. If you do go with suspenders, make sure to try them on under your shoulder pads to ensure that they’re not sliding around on top of your padding out on the ice.
- While most hockey pants come with buttons for suspenders, some do not. If that’s the case for you, try taking them to your local pro shop to see if they’ll outfit you with some buttons (pro tip: your local tailor may also be able to do this for a few bucks).
