Officials, like any hockey player, need good skates to do their job. Goalie skates, however, don’t quite fit that bill. Skates associated with a typical professional referee “uniform” are generally described as follows: A well-maintained, all-black skate, with as little grey, white, or color as possible and white laces. In sum, the best gear for officials is the gear that stands out the least. Your job is to officiate, not sport neon colored skates or bright laces that attract the players on the ice.
