New year. New gear?
In our opinion, the answer to that question is always ‘yes’. It’s the middle of the hockey season for most players, but we think there’s never a bad time to invest in high quality gear -- or to just gift yourself an upgrade! To make your decision easier, we’re rounding up the top twigs of the year for you. Without further ado: here are the best hockey sticks of 2020.
The Covert QRE came out back in 2018, but it still makes our list. Warrior took special care to craft a twig that features a reduced weight and an adjusted taper to optimize for a super fast shot release. The Warrior Covert QRE is an ideal choice if you’re looking for a twig that’s light, durable and responsive.
One of CCM’s most recent additions to the Ribcor line, the Ribcor Trigger 3D PMT features a low kick point for shorter loading, quicker shots, and a seamless energy transfer.
The 2N is still on our list, even two years after its initial release. One of the key characteristics of the 2N is its high-performance mold. The molding process used to craft the 2N eliminates excess material within the shaft, which gives players a more balanced and controlled feel.
The Fantom QRE was new for 2019, and Warrior released it as the company’s lightest and most technologically advanced stick ever. Weighing just 360 grams, the Warrior Fantom QRE combines strength and durability to achieve amazing overall performance.
The CCM JetSpeed FT2 stick features a hybrid kick point, which creates a “power hinge” effect. This means that players are able to more fully load their shaft without having to overly twist their stick. If you crave a combination control and comfort wrapped up in a lightweight twig, the JetSpeed FT2 could be a great option for you.
The Vapor Flylite was Bauer’s latest addition to its already mega-popular Vapor line. The Flylite is the lightest and quickest stick yet in the Vapor line. It weighs in at an impressive 387 grams. Despite its lightweight construction, this twig is very durable, thanks in large part to its Asymmetrical TeXtreme carbon fiber construction.
The ADV is the lightest stick that Bauer has ever released. It weighs a shocking 375 grams, and features a new taper design called Sonic Taper Technology. This new, seven-sided design exists on the bottom third of the stick. The taper helps to reduce weight, as well as prevent the shaft from torquing.
8. True AX9
Brand new for 2020, the True AX9 is a high-performing, lightweight and durable stick. Perhaps the best feature of the AX9 is its low kick point, which allows for a wicked fast release on shots.
Another new twig that was debuted for the 2019-20 season, the CCM RibCor Trigger 4 Pro is the quickest stick that CCM has ever released. The quick release on the Trigger 4 Pro is due in large part to a stiff flex point at the middle of the shaft. The shaft decreases in stiffness the farther down you go.
10. Bauer Supreme 2S
The Bauer Supreme 2S is known for its efficiency and power. The 2S features Advanced Carbon Layering in its shaft, which helps reduce weight without sacrificing durability. A new feature of the 2S is the addition of Bauer’s Duraflex resin, which increases the shaft’s durability and flexural strength. If you’re looking for a twig that you can lean heavily into to generate your maximum power, look no further than the 2S.
